I saw Anastina_91 opened her commissions and I could not resist getting myself a celebratory piece of art for submitting the last episode of The Missing.

sarah and derek's relationship is so interesting to me because they only get together in season 3 and there's around 12-ish years of derek liking her and her having no idea at all.

I think what drives me insane is that he's there for her, he always is. when sarah goes to follow the black dragons, she can call either luke (who'll come only if you're dating), stephanie (she will only answer if you're dating or have a good relationship with her) and derek, who will come either way, even if you are dating someone else. even when he thinks she’s reckless, absolutely out of her mind, even when she tests the very limits of his patience, he follows. again and again, he risks everything for her, standing at the edge of danger simply because she is there. because falling together would be better than not being together.

and when ten years later she shows up again, when another decade swallows them whole, when time stretches impossibly between their last goodbye and their next hello, he is still there. when she falls, he picks her up and builds a fire just to keep her warm (real ones will get the reference). he admits he thinks about the time they were younger, missing it, despite all the crazy shit they went through as literal teens. and when she asks him if he would change anything, he says that he would, but it wouldn't be him leaving, like she did. it would be him admitting his feelings -> even through all of the insane shit they witnessed, with two of their best friends almost dying multiple times, he wouldn't change the timeline because that wouldn't lead to each other meeting. he'd go through it all if it meant meeting sarah. the only thing he'd change is him finally letting the words that threatened to spill free, admitting that he loved, that he's loved her all those years, that while he was mad at her for leaving, the anger passed and all it left in its wake was yearning.

and when they go through all that shit again in season 3, he's right by her side. because no matter how much time passed, no matter how many times she left, he is always there. he always will be.

I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel for Derek if he is canonically alive in this world. You lose your parents to an immortal masked monster and some big wig coporate agenda decides they want to undo all of the things you and your friends barely even survived from. Now kids are missing again and the hellebore have taken over your hometown.
