When people tell him to be careful, he thinks they are overreacting, like always. Sungjae wears an invisible thick shell made out of the idea that he is invincible, that nothing can go through him as if he is made of steel. He isn’t.
He is blunt, daring, fueled by the thought that he fears nothing when he is out there, in the arena. So when his stunts leave him with a few more bruises than he’d be waiting for, he thinks of those as war wounds, not failures - he still manages in the end so it’s never a failure. However, he does have another flaw (among so many others) residing on the fact that he will never be trustworthy enough to be a fair judge of his own condition. He might as well one day be on the brink of death and still think he’s just a little weak. Maybe it’s all about pride.
The left hand covering the wound on his side offers him a little relief, a few seconds to think about his options and probably mentally crucify himself for the reckless move. He doesn’t blame the cheater he just fought with for using more than his fists on him, he blames himself for not seeing it before or dodging it. He doesn’t think it’s life-threatening (unless he keeps bleeding, that could be a problem) and the cut isn’t even big, it’s just weirdly deep.
And then, he hears the sirens, the noise, the rumble upstairs and the banging of doors left and right; people start running, pushing each other to escape those wearing blue uniforms. Sungjae thanks for the fact that he is wounded and therefore left all hell broke out. He hears the footsteps approaching the bathroom, threateningly close but by the sound of it - strangely light - he dares to think they belong to a female. He’s not wrong when he looks up and wonders if she is there just to pass by and leave to somewhere safer, where the police can’t cuff them and dump them in a dirty cell. He’s wrong though, and instead, the door creaks with the furious push to showcase the woman. He breathes, relieved for a moment when he recognizes her face, but then it downs upon him. “You’re too far away from the nearest exit, what are you doing?”
