LOCATION: Rafael’s residence
She had heard her brother loud and clear before she left and she was truly hurt at his choices. While she tried to see from his point of view, Carmen couldn’t relate. She wasn’t a biological parent to anybody. But she was her aunt and godmother, holding those titles closely to her heart. Their family was already messed up enough and she would be damned if Rafael thought Carmen would put Camila in harm’s way. Over her dead body would she allow anything to happen to her niece. As she clicked the memorized pin into the keypad, she opened the door making eye contact with Margarita and she lifted a hand. “It’s okay,” she said, opening the door wide as she lugged way too many gift bags into Rafael’s household. She hadn’t seen Camila in a couple weeks and Carmen did some damage on her card stocking up for her favorite baby. She knew Camila was getting up from her nap around this time and planned it perfectly. “He’s at work until 5, right?” She said, looking up at the clock that read 4 pm. She rushed up the stairs towards the baby’s playroom, dropping the bags and embracing Camila. While she had an hour with her, she took advantage of every second as they played along and basked in the gifts. She heard the loud steps up the stairs, holding the baby who was now completely transformed in the traditional Hawaiian hula dancer outfit. “Oh, hey,” she said to her older brother casually, Camila erupting in giggles as she shook a lei in her little fist.
