Chapter 1                Once upon in a Heylin Party

"Drink with me."

"I would need all the alcohol in the city to get closer to your level of intoxication."

"Please... Drink fast or something. I want drunk sex."

    ◈ — The more I think about it, the faster I realize how healthy rchack is in comparison      to regular chack.

     Well, at least after waters are calm and they get together. Before that, r!Jack tends to minimize r!Chase a lot and send him to ‘play with the other kids’.

     But seriously, r!Jack is pretty much an inventor himself, and curious like a toddler, interested in whatever new thing the modern world has to offer. And then, we have r!Chase who is also an inventor and a genius, like r!Jack.

     Whenever r!Chase needs to/wants to work in a new project or idea he has, simply has to look for his dragon and say he wants to do ‘X’ thing.

“Oh? A doomsday device?” “A death ray that makes you suffer the most intense pain ever before killing you!” “The whole package...” “Conveniently compacted in one ray!” “Perfect! What do you need to start? Steel? Iron? Copper goes without saying...” “Titanium! To make it easier to move!” “And extra resistant!” “This is gonna be awesome Jack! AWESOME!”

     Meanwhile, in regular chack, Chase seems to be, if not uninterested, still pretty indifferent to modern weapons and that kind of technology.

“Chase, I want to build a doomsday device.” “A what?” “Kinda like a death ray that makes people suffer a lot of pain before killing them.” “There's no need to do that, I will crush them all with my own hands.” “Well, yeah, I know you can but I want to build my thing, you know?” “I imagine so. What do you want to build your toy?”

      Chase is the kind of person that likes to do his evil ways with his own hands, therefore Jack’s machines aren’t, well, what he needs.

       In rchack their dynamic is different, more equal in a way, with both experimenting with projects, machines and magic while laughing hysterically because is just ‘so damn funny and evil’.

       In chack, their dynamic is more calm, both do their things by their own side, Chase trains Jack and teaches him magic, and Jack... Well, he does his stuff on his own (at least is how is how is portrayed by many authors, including myself) without Chase being involved in those activities. Which is not bad or wrong, since both are different characters with their own personalities and hobbies.

       The only big difference I can find in both ships, that makes me think rchack is a bit healthier, is the fact that r!Jack and r!Chase share an interest in common, a hobby, and both bond over it. Besides the fact that r!Jack tends to treat r!Chase more like an equal instead of someone inferior to him. He is curious enough to let r!Chase try whatever idea he wants to build, even if he himself has half a dozen of doomsday devices hidden somewhere in the mansion, because who knows? Maybe r!Chase can make something different or add a new thing this time.

        I believe that the fact they are contemporary to times when a technological revolution played an important role in the lives of people gives rchack a better dynamic to play with.

        Now, I love my chack. Is my very first ship in this fandom and I do love them, I’m not looking down to it, I just had this idea in my head that I wanted to share with you. While rchack has a more equal dynamic, the chack has the ‘opposites attract’ plot that I just love too hard.

Jack, the marine wizard.

I wrote this drabble/fic based on the idea of @betsunichan and their amazing drawing. I just love it. This is also based on @c0nji reverse!Au.

Part 1

                                              Accident

He had always been very curious about the world of the surface.

Over his 1,500 years of life humans had always fascinated him; so immersed in their environment on earth, with their boats floating on the water, transporting themselves from one side to another... They were so fragile as mere shells, just as a storm lashed their ships they split apart into tiny fragments and humans, small childrens yet, perish easily, unable to breath under the sea or just withstand the cold waters.

Jack had seen them many times and he liked to boast that he knew them well. He even have a vast collection of all kind of human objects that came on his hands; whether in his travels, because it fell near his home or as payment for his services to any sea creature. Yes, Jack was a wizard. Powerful and partly looked like the humans.

He liked looking at them from afar, almost like sirens, but unlike them he didn't feel the need to hypnotize them with songs... For him, was enough to look at them in the distance.

And study the corpses that sometimes feel near his territories. Human flesh, sometimes, was delicious.

And one day, he realized, they begun to explore the sea. Jack was surprised when he saw the foreign objects, manned by humans, coming down from the surface. They came and went but never stayed for long; dropping objects, throwing echolocations waves like many other marine animals... The sorcerer was intrigued by them. They seemed to be advancing so fast.

Jack assumed that those machines (the objects that submerged time and again), should be filled with air, so they could breathe, and also one or many of those engines that he had studied in the books that he managed to steal from the surface. But he needed to be sure. He wanted to see them and study them... He couldn't help it; Jack was curious by nature. And so, the next time that an object appeared near his territory, Jack went to investigate.

He was careful to not be detected, of course (he didn't want curious human on his home after all) and went to watch. In his delight to explore this new object he didn't realized that the machine was broken until it collapsed against a reef, trapping him in the middle of the structure and the submerged ship, facing directly the hard bubble that protected the human that was inside.

Jack placed his hands on the bubble to push the machine away from him and escape when he realized that he was being watched.

The wizard's eyes widened in surprise, forgetting by a moment the pain and the weight that was trapping him, seeing the human that looked back at him with the same bewilderment. The human, whose eyes had the same color of the amber, placed a hand over his, just on the other side of the glass, and looked at him winded.

And then Jack noticed; The human couldn't breathe. Like the many other humans when they died on his waters. The human didn't had air anymore? Maybe the machine was broken and the air was over but the human was doing nothing except watching him, with his chest moving more and more slowly as their mouth gestured words that Jack couldn't understand because he couldn't hear them.

Before realizing what he was doing the sorcerer broke the hard bubble, hitting it several times with force. Once he managed to break it the water flooded inside the machine and Jack took the human, creating another bubble of air so he could breathe.

Why he was saving the human? Why this human and not the rest? Maybe it was because this human seemed different from the others. Or perhaps just because this human gave him the opportunity to study something that interested him. Either way, Jack took them in his arms and swim to the surface of the sea, towards a point where he knew it was safe to appear.

"Hey, what's your name? Can you understand me? Thanks for saving me by the way. Are you a mermaid? Or a merman? You speak my language? Hello? Okay, I'll try with other languages. Hola. Olá. Salut. Namaste. Savle. Hej. Haló. Geya sas..."  The human keep babbling on his arms as he carried them as close as possible to the shroe. 

"It's pronounced 'Geia sas' not 'Geya sas'." He finally corrected, dropping the human safely a few meters from the shore and swam away without looking back until he was again underwater. Feeling a hunch he looked back to the surface again to see the human again, swiming and moving his arms on the water, like he was greeting him or some thing that humans did with their specie.

Was in that moment when the wizard realized that he just got into a colossal problem... His instincts told him that he wasn't going to get rid of this human in a long, long time.
