Tax Season
"How's that you look so pleased with all this, uh?"
"I know the law pretty well, dear. And I am making my way through it." Jack replied with amusement and went back to work, which meant ignoring Chase as he did for the past twenty six hours with forty three minutes... But who was counting, right? Not him... Certainly not Chase Young, the very-much-neglected-by-his-dragon-boyfriend, evil genius.

I decided to write some good, old r!Chack. Poor little Chase got some bad luck while trying to ask Jack for a date…
Chase passed his fingers through his hair for the thousandth time, checking himself in the reflection of the fountain.
Maybe was too much hair gel… Or maybe wasn’t enough? A black snake hissed at him from the couch of the living room at Jack’s mansion and Chase sighed again, passing his weight from one feet to another, passing his fingers through his hair again and checked his clock.
There was time, yeah, still had the chance to finish this and (if things didn’t go as planned) then go check his robots, and then to that stupid party his mom wanted him to attend. Another hissing and the snake left the couch, which only could meant that their master was—
“What are you doing here? ”
About to appear.
“Hey Jack. I was— I was around, and then I thought…” The dragon tilted his head, waiting for his answer and Chase offered him a wonderfully wrapped bouquet of roses, with black and gold laces around, making the red roses look like blood. “I got you this.”
Jack arched an eyebrow but took the bouquet, examining the roses in there.
“Eternal flowers… Where did you get them? ”
“Ah, well, I didn’t get them exactly…”
“Oh? ”
“Yeah. I made them. Myself. With my own hands.”
Megan was ready to drag Jack out to have a movie night but stopped when she saw Chase there, carrying flowers that apparently weren’t for her but for Jack… The girl giggled and decided this was as good as any other movie… And so, she opened a portal just big enough to grab popcorn from a poor, unfortunate person that was enjoying them in a real cinema.
“You made them.” Jack repeated, looking at the roses and then at Chase.
“Yeah. I mean, not like I made them made them, but I helped, yes.”
“I appreciate the gesture, thank you. Is there any reason why you decided to make but not-really-make me eternal roses? “
“Well, no. I mean, yeah… Is Valentine’s day. And-I-got-you-chocolate-too.” Megan laughed, her mouth full of popcorn; This was just as fun as watching a train derail! She could almost hear Chasey’s internal screams of terror!
“You got me chocolate, too… I’m sure we had a similar conversation time ago Chase.”
“Yeah, we kinda did. But I was fourteenback then! ”
“You are not much older than that.”
“I amtwenty one…” Jack sighed and snapped his fingers, making appear a vase for the roses. Megan got herself a drink too.
“What do you want? ”
“A movie, dinner and terrorize some investors after dinner? ”
“Megan is making me take her to watch a movie tonight, you can come with us.” Said girl in question shook his head, wondering how it was that Jack could be so silly when was obvious Chase was trying to—
“No like that, I mean, you and me, alone…”
“You would need to make an appointment first.” Yep, was enough, Megan knew she had to interfere before the cinema closed or something.
“Oh my— Man! How is a mortal supposed to get a date with you?! ”
Ohh… Nevermind, this was funny again! Jack’s face was all pink now!
“I don’t…” For once Jack was without words and his face was getting more and more red… Megan giggled again, noticing Chase’s face was now pink-ish too. “— Chase, you are still—”
“I’m not a kid anymore, I’m an adult, an adult that is pretty much sure has been feeling thigs for you since ever! ” Jack licked his lips, probably thinking in what he had to answer but then, suddenly (and pretty fast for a human, Megan admitted it), Chase was on him already; The boy took Jack on his arms and pulled him down, making the redhead rest on his arms in a pretty poor imitation of those romantic movies, and went straight for a kiss.
A kiss he never got.
Megan laughed loud and long when Jack’s instincts kicked in and he slapped poor Chasey so hard that the boy flew away and landed on the fountain, to sink in there without moving anymore.
“MEGAN! ” The girl laughed again, feeling like if her stomach was going to explode.
“That was—! That was mean! ”
“He startled me! You know how I get when people try to grab me like that! ”
“You killed him! ” Megan had to throw the popcorn and her drink to clean the tears of laughter of her eyes.
“He is going to be fine…” Jack went to the fountain and grabbed Chase’s shirt to pull him out of the water, noticing he was 1) still pretty much alive and 2) still pretty much unconscious.
“What are you going to do with him now? ” Megan poked the boy’s head, just to make sure he really was still alive.
“… Take him with us to the movies.” The girl arched an eyebrown and looked at the dragon. “What? He wanted a date, isn’t? I’m going to give him a date.”
“Jack…”
“He never said he wanted to be conscious while it happened.” Jack smiled, showing his fangs and Megan shrugged; it wasn’t like if Jack was lying anyway.
Besides, Chase was going to wake up eventually and by when that happened, she was going to have more popcorn to enjoy the show.
◈ — The more I think about it, the faster
I realize how healthy rchack is in comparison
to regular chack.
Well, at least after waters are calm and they get together. Before that, r!Jack tends to minimize r!Chase a lot and send him to ‘play with the other kids’.
But seriously, r!Jack is pretty much an inventor himself, and curious like a toddler, interested in whatever new thing the modern world has to offer. And then, we have r!Chase who is also an inventor and a genius, like r!Jack.
Whenever r!Chase needs to/wants to work in a new project or idea he has, simply has to look for his dragon and say he wants to do ‘X’ thing.
“Oh? A doomsday device?”
“A death ray that makes you suffer the most intense pain ever before killing you!”
“The whole package...”
“Conveniently compacted in one ray!”
“Perfect! What do you need to start? Steel? Iron? Copper goes without saying...”
“Titanium! To make it easier to move!”
“And extra resistant!”
“This is gonna be awesome Jack! AWESOME!”
Meanwhile, in regular chack, Chase seems to be, if not uninterested, still pretty indifferent to modern weapons and that kind of technology.
“Chase, I want to build a doomsday device.”
“A what?”
“Kinda like a death ray that makes people suffer a lot of pain before killing them.”
“There's no need to do that, I will crush them all with my own hands.”
“Well, yeah, I know you can but I want to build my thing, you know?”
“I imagine so. What do you want to build your toy?”
Chase is the kind of person that likes to do his evil ways with his own hands, therefore Jack’s machines aren’t, well, what he needs.
In rchack their dynamic is different, more equal in a way, with both experimenting with projects, machines and magic while laughing hysterically because is just ‘so damn funny and evil’.
In chack, their dynamic is more calm, both do their things by their own side, Chase trains Jack and teaches him magic, and Jack... Well, he does his stuff on his own (at least is how is how is portrayed by many authors, including myself) without Chase being involved in those activities. Which is not bad or wrong, since both are different characters with their own personalities and hobbies.
The only big difference I can find in both ships, that makes me think rchack is a bit healthier, is the fact that r!Jack and r!Chase share an interest in common, a hobby, and both bond over it. Besides the fact that r!Jack tends to treat r!Chase more like an equal instead of someone inferior to him. He is curious enough to let r!Chase try whatever idea he wants to build, even if he himself has half a dozen of doomsday devices hidden somewhere in the mansion, because who knows? Maybe r!Chase can make something different or add a new thing this time.
I believe that the fact they are contemporary to times when a technological revolution played an important role in the lives of people gives rchack a better dynamic to play with.
Now, I love my chack. Is my very first ship in this fandom and I do love them, I’m not looking down to it, I just had this idea in my head that I wanted to share with you. While rchack has a more equal dynamic, the chack has the ‘opposites attract’ plot that I just love too hard.

◈ — I’ve been writing a lot lately.
Not posting it here, but yes, I’ve been more active
than in the past months years
and now I’ve this little problem in my hands;
— I wrote a r!chack drabble, that is kinda a sequel
for a r!chack story I’m still writing.
Problem is I want to post the drabble now,
because is finished, but as I said, is kinda a sequel,
and the first part isn’t finished yet.
— I don’t know what to do lol

I have to admit that the r!chack often seems
more ‘healthy’ than normal chack.
Probably because I picture r!Jack being way
more patient with r!Chase than canon Chase
is with canon Jack.
Also, the fact that r!Chase literally just gives
a f /uck about everything and goes straight to
flirting, while dragonlord r!Jack just tries to
keep the boy away because, well, it’s a boy.
and ❝ A date? Tsk, nonsense, be a good boy
and go play with the other kids. ❞
