Hey so I was thinking of trying to get into making gif sets and editing videos, but I've never really done that before. I'm on mobile and can't tell if you have a tag for this, but if you have any tips for how beginners should get started that'd be really nice! I love your edits and thought that you probably would have good suggestions.
Ah, thank you so much!! I feel honored that you would ask me for advice!
So, thinking back to when I first started making gif-sets, I knew that people used Photoshop to make them. At the time I had no idea how to obtain it, but saw how expensive it was, so I got ‘Photoshop Elements’ for Christmas (my freshman year of high school I think?). It was...decent. You can make gifs with it, but they weren’t very good quality in my opinion at least when I played around with it. Eventually I obtained Photoshop and I looked up some basic tutorials on how to make gifs. And from then on the more you make gifs, the more you learn and get better at making good quality gifs. c: And I use Kmplayer to retrieve screenshots, which I then put into Photoshop to make into gifs.
As for video editing, I’ve been editing since I was 11. Started out with an online editor, then iMovie (which is decent for beginners! You don’t have a lot of features like the Hollywood standard programs, but it’s a good place to start with). My personal favorite editing program is Sony Vegas. It’s excellent and easy to learn for beginners. And if you...don’t want to mess with the high prices, I’d recommend the next best thing from Sony, which is Movie Studio Platinum. I used that before I got Sony Vegas on one of my birthdays years ago.
If you just want to do editing as a hobby, I would recommend using the less expensive and easy to use products (like Movie Studio Platinum - you have to pay money for it, but it’s really nice for beginners). Otherwise if you’re like me and are wanting to make a profession out of editing, I would definitely invest in programs like Adobe’s. The Hollywood standard is Avid Media Composer, but Adobe Premiere has been making it’s way and is becoming more acceptable in big companies (honestly Adobe is so much better than Avid. Anything’s better than Avid...lol. I hate Avid with a passion, haha).
I wish you luck!! I kind of was a bit brief, but if you have any other questions feel free to send ‘em my way!
