How it started
Joey and Brian's first meeting didn't start on the right foot. She sneaked into Brian and Sam’s camp while running away from lawmen.
Not wanting Joey to tell on them, Brian takes her with them a bit against her wishes.
Because of her looks, short hair, wearing men's clothing, and her name, Joey (short for Josephine) was easily mistaken for a boy. Still, the moment McPherson takes her on his shoulder he knew the truth about her, feeling a bit bad about having to take her against her will.
