Just another case of a mess the companies make when they’re trying to work with video while being paid for it (as opposed to people doing stuff voluntarily).
Originally released many years ago on DVD, this PV among many others got re-released as an upscale in Kotoko’s 26 stories BD. Video had a combination of DVD and BD interlace, sometimes resulting in horribly low vertical resolution, but worse of all, it got combined 24 and 30 fps content.
Took me a long time to bring this video to consistency with FPS, I had to manually mark up the areas of 24 and 30 fps and then process those differently, upsampling fps to 30 where needed. Why though? Because 24 fps sucks and is a mistake people keep believing. Yeah, “24 fps enough for smooth motion”, fat chance. Not only it’s too low, but even worse - while being displayed on 60 hertz screens that are the majority nowadays combination of these two frame rates introduce irregular motion jerkiness, because 60 is not divisible by 24. The difference in motion smoothness between 24 and 30 on a 60fps screen might be even larger than between 30 and 60.
Kotoko and Kalafina performances are pretty much the only reasons to watch lisani nowadays. Well them and also Sphere this time. But at the same time they’re THE reasons to do it.
I’m always impressed by Kotoko’s ability to hold those long notes as she sings, particularly at 4:45. Damn, son. That’s what being a Pro means.
Speaking about Kotoko I noticed a BD with collection of her PVs has been released a few days ago, I’m looking forward to it. I like how many performers started re-releasing their earlier (and better) PVs in HD nowadays, even if they’re just upscales.
Today’s song in the lineup is Re-sublimity, the opening song for Kannazuki no Miko, sung by Kotoko
Though Kannazuki no Miko was a short lived series, the music is still remembered. This dark electronica opening reminds me of a DDR song, and the intensity of the song is what makes it so memorable. It’s such a dramatic song, and even…
