this stupid flowchart perfectly illustrates why zeno and victor are really fucking stupid and screwed themselves over

it’s the most obscure and least useful flowchart i’ve ever seen. the fact that their evil masterplan hinges on THIS. THIS is how they planned it.

1: they’re not even using the flowchart shapes correctly. a diamond indicates a yes/no question. that first step should be an oval. FIND A CORPSE INFECTED WITH RC SYNDROME ISNT A YES/NO QUESTION, NOT WITH YOUR RESOURCES LMAO

2: “check if grace ashcroft is the same person from 8 years ago” who?? else would she be??? you can put pressure on the FBI and yet you have to double check??? did you include that step just so you could also include these two existential questions on the left???

3: “liberate grace ashcroft” decidedly, victor, you have a very specific understanding of the word “liberate”

4: my favourite: “get her to cooperate?” and there’s nothing after that. that’s the point of a flowchart, you two. come up with options depending on what happens. what if she DOESNT cooperate??? you don’t even have an option for that????

i’m sure there are a bunch of other things wrong with that flowchart but

it’s really no wonder they couldn’t figure out what elpis was

Finished Requiem 😮‍💨 It was so good!! The difference in playstyle between Grace and Leon had me a little frazzled but kept me on my toes for sure. Absolutely loved it! Highly recommend.

It's kinda interesting to read RE9 theories from fans. They're fun, some make sense, some are downright hilarious.

Especially the ones that apply real life logic to Resident Evil lol this is the series where people get dropped from 1000 feet and don't die. These are the people that get bit by zombies and only need herbs to heal. These are the people that can punch boulders, eat raw snake for heals, and get bugs in their system with no lasting damage in their organs. I'm not a doctor, but you know. Seems sus.

Almost like Resident Evil exists in a fictional world that defies real life logic?

Look, I'm not shading the theories. They are fun to read if you base it on the context of Resident Evil logic.

But applying real life logic to the characters' decision based on how people in real life would act, is, in my humble opinion, a little misguided.

I mean, just look at Leon's reaction in RE2 when he learned that Umbrella created the virus that turned people into monsters.

"That explains the horrible things I've seen!"

No shade, honestly. Just my two cents.

I'm saying this because I don't have my own theories. If you told me that Leon would turn into a banana in RE9, I'd believe you.

But who cares, do what makes you happy! I'm not the fun police, nor do I ever wanna be lol

I think, my point is, whatever your theory is? However cracked out it may be? It's 100% valid. Anything is possible in the Resident Evil universe.

(Except maybe giving Leon a different hairstyle, they would never.)

there’s a file you can find in the rhodes hill care centre pertaining to grace: it’s basically just the remarks of some private investigator who followed her

and she’s basically described as

“lives alone” “comes home late at night, often after midnight” “spends her free time at home” “no confirmed contact with others”

I guess I had to add “weird for a married man”. I understand acceptance of your mortality is one of the main themes of the game but if he’s married.. I just find it kinda odd

ah okay, gotcha. i kinda glossed over the “speaking about the ring” part.

as always, major spoilers for requiem

the thing is, i get the impression that leon being married was never meant to be an ‘in your face’ reveal during the game. the reason why people noticed he was married in the first place is because of him subtly putting his wedding band back on at the end of the game, and it’s featured very obviously in the concept art, but it’s never openly referenced in-game. so having him debate his mortality during the game specifically because of his marriage would go against the (intended) subtlety of the devs. if they had leon say “please no don’t kill me i have a family”, then the (short-lived) mystery around his ring would have been immediately dispelled.

i don’t know that him accepting his mortality in requiem is necessarily incompatible with the fact that he’s married. having him come to terms with that, and the fact that it’s okay for him not to be able to save someone, is an integral part of his arc. his marriage is very secondary. but anyway, let’s have a look at this through the prism of each ending:

bad ending: leon gets his ass kicked by zeno, he gets stabbed, and right before he gets shot in the head, he tells grace “at least i could save you”. keep in mind he’s also at what, probably the last stage of his t-virus infection? so i can’t imagine that he’s thinking clearly. i also can’t imagine leon begging for his life because he’s got someone at home. i just can’t picture it.

good ending: after the boss fight, leon knows there’s no way out. he takes a look around him and he can very easily determine that both he and grace are stuck. leon is written, as a character, to be protective: panicking and saying that he needs to get out, because he’s got a wife and kids at home, while this 25-year-old agent who’s scared shitless and has just been stabbed is sitting right there, would run counter to his personality, imo. and i guess he could say “well grace it fucking sucks that we’re gonna die here cause i got shawty waiting for me at home” but it would be so tone deaf to say that to a 25 year old girl who’s dying, when he doesn’t actually know if she might have someone waiting for her and when HE is actually alright now.

at the end of the day, i don’t think marriage would change leon’s reaction to his potential death. he’s not going to beg, because it wouldn’t change anything, and he’s not going to panic, because it wouldn’t change anything either and it would make matters worse for grace. on top of that, since the devs didn’t want to explicitly reveal his married status, they wouldn’t have him address his family life at any point in the game. that being said, there are clues throughout the game that point to leon being married or having a family, beyond the existence of the ring.
