Reactions...Maybe... I'm Really Boring

Sorry you got no reactions from me on the last like, 8 episodes. There was too much I wanted to say to even think about separating it out.

Also, I’ve been awake for like 30 some hours and the day’s just begun. I’ll be a little more dead to the world today.

So I know I mentioned that I was planning to do a reaction to Hatoful Boyfriend explaining why I disliked it, but I haven’t had the energy and my brain has been doing its best to forget the game’s existence. I’ll give my quick thoughts under the cut for those who want to go in with no prior knowledge.

Basically, it boils down to the fact that I had to play a game where I dated birds fourteen times in order to get the complete true ending plus epilogue, and I was too traumatized by that point to appreciate anything beyond that. Not only that, the story felt exploitative, like the writers kept throwing in dark themes and plot twists to prove that they could make people take this story seriously rather than because they actually had a story to tell. The pacing was also really sloppy, and as a result I got tonal whiplash a lot. Like one minute there was a sparrow leaning her wing on a tiny scooter that she somehow rides despite not having hands or anything, and then the next we’d be talking about suicide. The only part I really liked was Okosan’s route, because at least that was consistent. Anghel’s route was tolerable as well, I suppose.

Of course, I also have this thing where I have a harder time getting attached to non-humanoid characters due to certain things, so it could’ve been that personal bias that made me feel grossed out the whole time by romances with birds.
