A/N: Bold of you to assume I’m not stressed all the time but thank you for your concern!! And I’m assuming the reader and Veronica are dating after Veronica’s relationship with Archie here, but I wasn’t sure if that was what you wanted, and I didn’t know who you wanted saying what in the dialogue you provided but I hope you like it!

Your name: submit What is this?
Veronica’s relationship with Archie was one you had always looked upon with a slight resentment, even before you and Veronica started dating. You tried your best to be happy for them, yet it was hard, seeing your close friend and the girl you had fallen in love with be together. The way he’d so casually drape his arm around her, the way you’d see them kissing in the hallways, it all seemed to strike you in a way you didn’t think was possible, tapping into emotions you didn’t think existed.
When Veronica and Archie broke up, you felt simultaneous relief and happiness, none of which you were able to show. You had to be there for both of them, reassuring them that perhaps they weren’t meant for each other, perhaps it was never meant to work out. It was the topic of Riverdale High’s gossip for weeks, Team Varchie suddenly breaking up out of the blue. You had been Veronica’s shoulder to cry on, helping her through the whole ordeal. Perhaps it was selfish of you, but you had wondered what her breakup would mean for your relationship, if after all these months you could finally make a move. Perhaps the both of you moved to quickly, another flaw in your relationship, but at the time, it seemed right. Three months and two weeks after Veronica’s breakup with Archie, you and Veronica had gone out to dinner, and at the end of it, you kissed her.
Your relationship was quick to fall into place after the first kiss. Veronica didn’t waste time making it clear the two of you were exclusive, if not already boyfriend and girlfriend. You remembered seeing the confusing and jealousy mixed into Archie’s expression when he saw Veronica place a suggestive hand on your knee, and again when you reached over to tuck her hair behind her ears. You hated how smug you felt, how it shouldn’t feel so good to gain satisfaction from Archie’s pain, yet you finally had the girl you had been coveting for so long.
If there were still any remnants of gossip theorizing over Veronica and Archie’s breakup, it was quickly dispelled with new gossip concerning you and Veronica’s newfound relationship. There were whispers here and there about how your relationship wouldn’t last, but you were the new talk of the town. The new ‘it’ couple of Riverdale, confidently strutting down the hallway, hand in hand.
Your relationship lasted 7 months, but it was already doomed to fail 2 months before you broke up.
Jealousy was a toxin that felt all too familiar to you. It sneaked into your relationship with Veronica, poisoning the roots far before the symptoms became present. It lay within you, dormant, yet it was always festering, waiting for the right moment to strike. You could feel it bubbling within you whenever you noticed the small things, small things you had tried to ignore in the beginning before they started to escalate out of control. Before it escalated into the very thoughts that plagued your mind from the minute you woke up, to right before you fell asleep. You’d make excuses for yourself and Veronica, purposefully misattributing Veronica’s behaviour for your own sake, for your own sanity.
The little glances you’d catch Veronica and Archie exchanging. Coincidence, at first. Nothing more than accidents. The way Veronica’s arm would linger on Archie’s. It was simply her being friendly, it was just who she was. Quickly, your excuses fell apart, leaving the truth you had been afraid to accept, the truth you were so desperately rejecting.
Veronica was still in love with Archie. It was indisputable.
You tried to cling onto whatever remnants of a relationship you still had. Tried to fill the empty hole in your heart -- eaten away with jealousy -- with dates, romantic outings, empty ‘I love yous’. You tried to clumsily fix your relationship, tried to control her, force a wedge between her and Archie, but nothing seemed to work. Soon, you realized your relationship had turned toxic out of jealousy. There was nothing you could do to change a person’s mind when they’re in love, yet you still didn’t want to let go of the girl you loved without a fight.
It was a Saturday night when you finally confronted Veronica about her feelings towards Archie. She remained silent as you listed off evidence of her affections towards the ginger haired boy, and her silence rattled you. You had hoped she’d fight for your relationship as hard as you were fighting now, but as she sat on the couch, staring into her hands, it seemed like she was willing to let everything slip away.
“What do you want me to say, y/n?” Veronica asked, her voice quiet, and you threw your hands in the air.
“Something!” you yelled desperately, and she flinched. “I don’t know, anything!”
“I just can’t… I can’t do this anymore.” Veronica choked out, finally looking up at you with tears in her eyes. She got up to leave, but you shook your head.
“Don’t walk away from me, V.” you called out after her, and you watched her ball her hands into fists as she forced herself to keep going. “Veronica, don’t you dare!”
“Do you want me to tell you I don’t love him anymore?” Veronica cried, turning around. “Tell you that I don’t feel anything for him? Because I can’t, y/n! I’m sorry, but I can’t.”
A small part of you felt relief, a final confirmation, condemnation, of your relationship. Yet, hearing Veronica’s confession allowed the jealousy and bitterness to swallow your heart, whole, leaving you utterly empty and lost. You stared at her, before turning away. You wished she had stayed, walked back to you and tried to fix things, yet she left, closing the door behind her, turning away from you.
At school, people were quick to pick up on the distance between you and Veronica. The avoidance of eye contact, the way you sat across the room from each other instead of leaning against one another. Just like the news with Veronica and Archie, the news of your breakup quickly spread, and people were desperate to know the details. You heard Veronica and Betty talking, Betty trying to console her, yet Veronica remained quiet about the exact details of that Saturday night. Archie and Jughead had tried to offer you advice, tried to sneak in questions which you adamantly refused to answer. It remained one of the biggest mysteries in Riverdale High, a mystery which remained to be solved. Yet, if anything in your relationship was certain, it was that the truth about your breakup would never be revealed.

could you do a veronicaxfemale reader imagine where she is New to riverdale and her and veronica immediately attract each other romantically
A/N: Again, this was much longer than I meant it to be. I’m not great at editing! As always, please leave comments, and keep the requests coming. :-)
I had been in Riverdale for one week before school started, but had spent that time unpacking boxes and organising my room. On the first day of school, I headed for the main office, following a map that was printed on cheap paper with faded ink. Squinting slightly and tilting the piece of paper, trying to find some good lighting, I didn’t even notice the girl walking toward me.
“Need some help?” she all-but sang. Her voice was so sweet and melodic, her raven-hair shimmering in the fluorescent lighting, and her skin glowing even in the harsh lighting. I blushed and fumbled the piece of paper.
“yeh, um- I’m looking for the office… I’m new.. I’m supposed to be getting a tour this morning from - “ I squinted at the piece of paper, but the girl answered for me.
“From Betty Cooper, right?” I nodded slowly, taking in her dark red lips and pearl necklace. “She’s the best, gave me a tour on my first day too. Veronica Lodge.” She extended her hand and I took it, somehow managing to almost mispronounce my own name.
She giggled. “Knowing Betty, I’m sure I will see you at lunch” Veronica winked at me and left, pointing me in the right direction.
After my tour, I stumbled through my first few classes, running late to most of them. Mercifully, the teachers all understood that I was new, and gave me a free pass. AS Veronica had predicted, Betty had taken a copy of my timetable and was waiting outside of the biology lab when the lunch bell rang. She hooked her arm through mine and steered me toward the cafeteria. I was genuinely grateful, as I had been dreading the awkwardness of searching for a table on my own.
Once we had our food, Betty confidently lead us outside toward an occupied table. She sat down next to a dark-haired boy and planted a gentle kiss on his cheek. He smiled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Next to him was a brunette boy with a dark green sweater who gave me a mega-watt smile. On the other side of the table was a red-haired boy wearing a letterman jacket and next to him was Veronica.
I sat next to Veronica, and she made the introductions, scowling at Betty for forgetting such pleasantries, and joking that Jughead’s anti-socialness was rubbing off on her. Lunch continued in this manner, with the group of friends exchanging jokes and making fun of one another. I sat quietly, taking it all in when I felt Veronica’s hand brush across the side of my thigh. I stilled, but didn’t look up, thinking that she hadn’t meant to make such contact.
The conversation around me carried on as before, but Veronica’s hand travelled back down my leg and rested on my knee. The was purposeful. I looked up at the raven-haired goddess sitting next to me, and she grinned.
I had been at Riverdale High for a few days now and remained confused by that first lunch period. Veronica and I hadn’t talked about it, but that didn’t stop our hands from meeting under the table during lunch, or at Pop’s for that matter. Her fingers would intertwine with mine, and her thumb would rub over the back of my hand giving me goosebumps.
It was Friday now and we were halfway through our lunch when Cheryl strode over to our table and announced that we were all invited to her “ back to school” kegger at Thornhill. Jughead groaned, Betty looked at him pleadingly, Kevin bounced up and down in his seat, Archie’s eyes lit up, and Veronica turned to me. She was gauging my reaction. Her perfectly manicured eyebrows raised in a question and I nodded. She squeezed my hand and smiled. We were going to a party together.
Veronica arrived at my house that night in a chauffeured car. Jesus Christ, where was this girl from? I closed the door behind me and walked toward the waiting vehicle. As I opened the door, Veronica’s eyes widened, “You look hot!” she exclaimed. I blushed. I was wearing a black low-cut dress that fell just above my knees and a pair of black high heels. Veronica, on the other hand, was wearing a skin tight red dress that stopped mid-thigh and made my mouth drop open.
I climbed, as gracefully as I could, into the backseat of the car, next to Ronnie and turned to face her. “You look ridiculously amazing!” I stated, eyeing her from head to toe. She smiled and leant forward, cupping my face and placed a gentle kiss on my lips. She pulled back to look into my eyes, waiting for my reaction. I smiled and leant in to return the kiss, my fingers slipping into her hair.
You and Veronica were already late for your next class when the zipper of your half-opened bag failed and sent all of your belongings tumbling out.
The two of you groaned in unison, dropping to the floor to collect your things. "You go on ahead, V. I'll catch up."
"I'm not just going to leave you."
You and Veronica worked fast, shoving everything back into the bag when a bright flash of color caught her eye. She picked up a yellowed piece of paper and gasped.
Your head snapped up and your stomach immediately dropped.
"Is this me?"
You wracked your brain for something funny, something witty. Anything that would make this moment less awkward and came up empty. "Are you mad?"
"Why would I be mad? This is beautiful!" Veronica continued shuffling through your many drawings. All of her on different days, in different poses and outfits. All thoughts of making it on time to your next class had vanished from your head.
"You're beautiful," you corrected.
Veronica met your gaze. Flattered. Awe-struck. Relieved. "Is that why you sketch me so much? You think I'm beautiful?"
You blushed deeply. "Well I defintely didn't spend all this time drawing you because I think you're ugly."

"Y/N? I thought we were supposed to meet later at Pop's what are you doing here?"
"I didn't have anywhere else to go," you grunted, as you shrugged out of your jacket. Every move and breath was pain.
"Are you okay?"
"No," you winced. "I need your help. I was on my way home when I got into a disagreement with some Serpents."
"A disagreement?"
"One of them--a girl--thought that she would look better in my jacket than I did. I told her she was blind and… I'm no doctor but I think she dislocated one of my ribs."
Veronica helped you onto her bed. "Well, first thing we're going to do is get you into a hospital to have your injuries looked at."
"And then?"
"And then we're going to make sure those Serpents never touch you or anyone else ever again."
You and Veronica shared a smile. "What did you have in mind?"

“y/n, you coming?” Betty tilted her head as you nervously waited outside Mr. Weatherbee’s office. You tucked your hair behind your ears and shook your head.
“I’m showing a new student around.” you explained, and you could see Betty’s surprised expression. “I don’t know why Weatherbee chose me, you’re a much better representative of the school-”
“y/n, stop.” Betty laughed, reaching out to grab your shoulders. “I’m sure the new girl will love you.”
You smiled gratefully at your best friend, and she smiled back.
“Well, I have to go.” Betty clapped her hands together, letting go of your shoulders. “I’ll see you at lunch?”
“Definitely, unless the new girl kidnaps me.” you joked, and Betty laughed. “You don’t think Archie and Kevin will mind if I bring her over, do you?”
“Of course they won’t.” Betty waved her hand. The both of you suddenly heard Weatherbee’s door open, and Betty gave you a quick thumbs up before sprinting away. Taking a deep breath, you turned around to meet the new girl, and you felt as if all the air was knocked out of your lungs.
She was gorgeous.
She had such a beautiful smile, which she was showing to you right now. She had wide, dark eyes which matched her shiny, dark hair. She was dressed stylishly, a dainty pearl necklace around her neck and she was wearing a plaid patterned dress.
“Veronica Lodge.” the girl introduced herself, and you snapped yourself out of your trance to shake her hand. “You must be y/n.”
“Y-yes.” you stammered, before quickly brushing your hair out of your face. Veronica smiled as she looked you up and down, and you shyly looked away.
“Well, are you going to tell me all the secrets of Riverdale High as we walk down it’s halls?” Veronica leaned closer to you, and you laughed shakily.
“Definitely!” you piped up, flushing slightly. Internally, you cursed yourself for getting flustered so easily, but the more Veronica watched you, the cuter she found you. “Um, follow me?”
“Lead the way, y/n.” Veronica grinned, and you smiled as you began to walk down the hallway. You liked the way your name sounded on her tongue, and you bit back a smile. Veronica leaned over to nudge you, and she smiled when she saw you flush again. She thought you looked cute when you were flustered.
“So, what kind of activities are there at this school?” Veronica asked, looking around. “And what’s there to do around here? It’s a pretty small town.”
“It is pretty small,” you agreed. “But if you find the right friends, you can make any situation fun.”
Veronica looked at you in surprise, and you paused, surprised at yourself. Veronica nodded slowly, her smile getting wider.
“Do you think that…” Veronica said slowly. “We could possibly be friends?”
“Yes!” you blurted, a little too quickly. You looked at Veronica, expecting her to change her mind, but she nodded enthusiastically.
“Awesome.” she giggled, looping her arm through yours. “Now come on, let’s finish this tour. We’ve barely made it down the hallway!”
–
Archie put down his tray as he slid onto the bench next to Betty, who was already at their usual table with Kevin. Looking around, Archie asked, “No y/n?”
“She’s with the new student.” Betty informed him, and Archie nodded.
“No less than Veronica Lodge.” Kevin smirked as he took a bite of his food. “Have you guys heard about her dad-”
“Guys!” you interrupting, shooting Kevin a look as you walked up to the table. “Meet Veronica!”
The two of you squeezed onto the bench with Kevin, and you could see Archie pause as he gaped at Veronica. You felt a small swell of jealousy in your chest, but quickly shook it off. You saw Betty smile warily at Veronica, whilst Kevin looked her up and down.
“This is Betty, Archie and Kevin.” you introduced everyone at table to Veronica, and Veronica grinned as she looked at everyone. “They’re my best friends.”
“Well, hope you have room for one more.” Veronica shrugged, and you beamed at her. She seemed like a very straightforward person, and you admired that about her.
“How are you finding Riverdale?” Archie asked, leaning forward.
“A little drab, to be honest.” she shrugged, looking around. “But, I mean, if I can find the right friends I can have fun anywhere, right?”
You looked up at her in surprise upon hearing her use your words, and she smiled at you knowingly. You quickly looked away, smiling shyly, and under the table, Veronica leaned her leg against yours. As Betty, Kevin and Archie began to talk about places in Riverdale to hang out, you leaned closer to her too.
–
“So…” you said slowly, as you and Veronica strolled out of school together. Betty and Kevin were staying behind for some extracurricular activities, whilst Archie had gone to Ms. Grundy. You and Veronica were alone, but not like either of you were complaining. “First day was okay?”
“I think we can agree it was a success.” Veronica nodded. “Didn’t have any embarrassing moments, met some new friends, and I found someone I’m interested in.”
You looked at her, your eyes wide. You quickly masked your surprise and nodded instead, clearing your throat.
“Oh, really?” you managed to stammer out, and Veronica nodded, a confident smile on her face.
“I was actually planning on asking them out today.” Veronica continued, and you kept nodding.
“Uh, was it Archie?” you asked, disappointment filling your chest. “I could help you find him if you want.”
“Oh, God no.” Veronica laughed. “Don’t get me wrong, he is cute, but I think I’ve found someone cuter.”
Turning to face you, Veronica stopped in the street and you hesitantly stopped too. She had a small smirk on her face as she took a step towards you, raising her eyebrows.
“Wanna go out on a date, y/n?” she asked, and you gaped at her. “My mom says Pop’s is a chill place to hang out.”
“M-me?” you stammered, and Veronica laughed and looped her arm through yours.
“Yes, you.” she confirmed. “You’re adorable.”
“I’d love to go out on a date!” you exclaimed, still not believing your luck.
“Well, good, because I was just planning on taking you out anyway.” Veronica laughed, and you finally relaxed and laughed. “That settles it, then. Today was definitely a success.”
Arm in arm, the two of you strolled towards Pop’s, the both of you beaming in excitement as to what this relationship could turn into.

Your name: submit What is this?
Veronica and y/n. y/n and Veronica. Where there was one, there was always the other. The minute Veronica had moved into Riverdale, the two of you had immediately felt a pull towards each other, one that couldn’t be denied. It didn’t take long for the two of you to quickly become friends, friends so close that it would take a massive disaster to break apart. And of course, because it seemed impossible for a girl and a boy to just be friends, news quickly spread through Riverdale that the two of you were dating, although that was never truly the case. Despite the copious amount of shopping trips you accompanied Veronica on, despite the numerous football games Veronica never failed to attend just to cheer you on, the two of you were just friends, nothing more.
Whenever you thought back on your relationship with Veronica, perhaps there was something there. A tiny spark, waiting to ignite into something more. But there was a mutual suppression of that spark from both sides, fueled by the fear of ruining your friendship. Perhaps the two of you were content with what you had, but something shifted, unsettling the intricate pieces of your relationship the day Veronica and Archie started to grow closer in a way you and Veronica never could.
Perhaps you had always known there was something between Veronica and Archie. She’d let a comment slip here and there, about how good Archie looked, or a remark on how she wondered how he was still single. You hated the tiny worm of jealousy that wriggled into your heart whenever you saw Veronica look at Archie, or whenever he made her laugh more than you did, but you tried so hard to ignore it. This was what you had silently agreed upon, anyway -- the two of you were just friends. So why was it suddenly so hard to accept the fact that Veronica was romantically interested in someone else?
The answer was simple: you had fallen in love with Veronica Lodge. No amount of hiding from the truth would erase it.
Slowly but surely, as Veronica grew closer to Archie, you drifted farther away from her. You hated how you had been through so much with her, but all it took was one boy and a tiny bit of jealousy to drive you apart. You hated even more how Veronica didn’t seem to notice at first, still talking to you as if nothing had changed, still wanting to hang out together like there was no invisible wedge between the two of you. She seemed happier -- happier in a way you could never make her -- now that she was getting closer to Archie, and you knew it was only a matter of time before the two of them started dating. You wanted to be happy for her, smiling to hide your pain every time she gushed about something that had happened between them, but it just made you more bitter.
--
You phone chimed with the notification of a text.
Veronica: we need to talk. meet at pop’s?
You paused, debating whether or not you should respond. You frowned, noticing how your instinct to always respond to Veronica had somehow faded. Finally, you typed a response, hoping you wouldn’t regret it.
y/n: sure. i’ll be there in 5
Veronica: 👍
--
You took a deep breath as you saw Veronica in your favorite booth at Pop’s. You felt frozen in place, unsure about what exactly Veronica was so determined to talk about, and you forced yourself to move forward, sliding into the seat opposite you. She offered a friendly smile, but you couldn’t help but notice the tension in her shoulders.
“I ordered your favorite.” Veronica slid a milkshake over to you, and you flashed her a faint smile. “I didn’t know if you wanted something to eat, too.”
“It’s fine.” you waved your hand, swirling your straw through the shake. “What’s up?”
Veronica leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table. “Something’s changed between us, y/n, and I don’t like it. I just… I needed to clear the air, I guess. Did I do something wrong?”
You didn’t respond for a moment, focusing your gaze on the table instead of Veronica’s eyes. Finally, you quietly responded, “No, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Then why have you been avoiding me?” Veronica demanded, raising an eyebrow. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed, y/n. I thought that something was going on at home, but now I just feel like I’m the problem.”
“You’re not the problem, Archie’s the problem.” you correct her, blurting out the words before you could stop yourself, and Veronica jerked back, surprised. Unable to hide your secret anymore, you continued, “I love you, Veronica, and it just… it hurts me to see how much happier you look with him instead of me.”
Veronica blinked at you. Perhaps deep down, she had always known, but hearing your confession out loud rattled her. She looked away, unable to think of a response. She truly valued your friendship, and she knew she would have to tread delicately if she wanted to preserve it.
“y/n, I really like Archie.” she slowly started, and you took a deep breath, nodding. You had known your confession wouldn’t change Veronica’s feelings, but you had still remained hopeful. “But even though I don’t feel the same about you as I feel about Archie, you still mean a lot to mean in a different way, and I don’t want my relationship with Archie to come in between that.”
You pressed your lips together, trying to process everything. Could you still remain friends with Veronica, knowing she didn’t love you the way you loved her? As if she could read your mind, Veronica leaned forward as she continued, “I understand if you need some space, but I just hope I don’t lose you because of this. Yes, Archie makes me happy, but you have no idea how happy you make me, too. You’re still my friend -- my best friend, if anything.
She offered you a small smile, and you studied her face. You knew it was selfish to try and keep Veronica for yourself, that there were others who deserved to be with her. In truth, she and Archie deserved each other, even you could see that. You didn’t know if your feelings towards Veronica would change, or if you would never be able to move on. Perhaps you would always still love her in some way, but at the end of the day, no one made you happier that Veronica did. And if it meant staying friends to keep you and Veronica together, to keep the both of you happy, you were willing to do so.
“Of course.” you finally smiled back, nodding at her. It would be painful for now, but you knew you and Veronica could work through this awkwardness, and emerge stronger together. “You’re still my best friend, too.”

Riverdale. Despite it’s small, rather uneventful nature, nothing could beat the fact that the small town was your home. All the travelling around the world was nothing compared to the sense of familiarity and comfort you felt as you and your family drove back into your hometown, after a year long trip bouncing between different cities for your father’s job. A smile floated on your face as the car drove by Pop’s, and you could almost taste the delicious milkshakes and burgers you used to eat with your friends, laughing over silly stories and old jokes. Finally, your family’s driver pulled up at your old home, the Pembrooke.
“Antonio.” your father greeted the family’s old butler, who was dutifully standing outside the entrance before helping your family with your bags. Your father gave him a warm handshake as he remarked, “It’s good to see you.”
“Likewise, sir.” Antonio responded, smiling at you, to which you responded with a small wave. “I must inform you, sir, since you’ve been gone, another family has moved into the apartment above yours.”
“Oh?” your mother arched an eyebrow, exchanging a glance with your father.
“The Lodges.” Antonio responded. “Hiram and Hermione Lodge, with a daughter, Veronica.”
“Well,” your father clapped you on the back. “We’ll be sure to get ourselves acquainted with the family. But first, we must unpack.”
You waited outside as your family went indoors with the butler. You pulled your phone out of your coat pocket, scrolling through your contacts until you found Betty’s name. You smiled upon seeing the old contact photo you had saved of her, a selfie she had taken where the both of you were giving big smiles. Hitting dial, you raised the phone to your ear as you thought about your other friends, Archie and Jughead. Between moving around so much, you had found you didn’t have much time to stay in contact, but you were hoping that things wouldn’t be too awkward with your return.
“y/n?” Betty’s voice answered, and you smiled to yourself.
“Hey, Betty. I’m glad to see you’ve still saved my contact.” you replied, and you could hear Betty laugh.
“Of course I did, y/n.” she responded. The conversation already seemed so natural, as if you had never left. “What’s up?”
“Well, I’m actually back in Riverdale for the foreseeable future.” you said slowly, and you could hear Betty gasp in delight.
“What?” she asked, and you could almost hear the smile in her voice. “y/n, that’s amazing! We have to meet up with Archie and Jug, there’s so much we have to catch you up on!”
“I can’t wait.” you smiled, a feeling of happiness swelling in your chest at your old friend’s excitement. “How about we have dinner tonight at Pop’s? Maybe around 7? I’ve been craving one of his burgers for a whole year.”
“That sounds great.” Betty laughed. “I’ll call the others and let them know!”
You hung up, a sense of excitement building in your chest. This was one of the reasons why Riverdale had such a special place in your heart -- because your friends, no matter how far away you were, would always welcome you with open arms.
--
Something in your heart seemed to lift at the fact that so many people still remembered you. Pop enthusiastically welcomed you to the diner with a warm hug, remarking how much different you looked. You saw Archie and Jughead sitting at your favorite booth, and their faces lit up upon seeing you. Archie greeted you with a big hug, and you laughed as Jughead shot you a knowing smile and a little nod.
“I was just thinking about you, y/n.” Archie remarked as he pulled away. “Football season’s coming back up, and I kept thinking about how good you were at it. The team’s just not as good as it was with you in it.”
Laughing, you patted Archie on the shoulder as you sat down. “Thanks, Arch. I was hoping they’d let me back on the team when I start again, and maybe I’ll even get my captain rank again.”
“Well of course you will, the Bulldogs practically worshipped you.” Jughead interjected, rolling his eyes teasingly. “You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone bowed down to you in the hallways when you come back to Riverdale High.”
You playfully reached over to punch Jughead’s arm as you could feel Archie stir beside you. He lifted his arm, waving at who you soon realised was Betty, who was accompanied by a raven haired girl. Betty rushed over to you as her companion followed close behind, who you couldn’t help but notice was incredibly attractive. You could tell she was checking you out too with cautious eyes, trying to see if she could interpret what kind of person you were.
“I still can’t believe you’re back!” Betty exclaimed, engulfing you in a hug. Pulling away, she gestured to the girl as she introduced, “I hope you don’t mind me bringing someone along. y/n, this is Veronica.”
“Lodge?” you asked, raising an eyebrow, and Veronica blinked at you in surprise before nodding. Waving your hand, you explained, “Our butler mentioned the Lodge family when we moved back in -- we live right below you.”
“Ah.” Veronica smiled, instantly relaxing as she reached over to offer her hand. You shook it, the both of you exchanging warm smiles as if you had known each other for years. “It’s nice to meet you, neighbor.”
“Likewise.” you responded, and out of the corner of your eye, you could see Archie and Jughead exchange glances, a smug smirk painted over Jughead face. Within a simple exchange, they could already sense something blossoming -- your gaze lingered a second too long, Veronica’s smile stretched slightly bigger than usual -- and the giddy expression on Betty’s face told them she sensed it too.
“What can I get you kids?” Pop briefly interrupted the moment, and Veronica quickly pulled her hand away from hers, flustered slightly as she slid into the booth alongside Betty, while you squeezed in with Archie and Jughead on the other side. Everyone chorused their orders, and you smiled to yourself when you noticed that your friends’ regular orders still hadn’t changed. As Pop left, your friends immediately began to indulge you in the stories created since your absence. You reacted with shock when you found out Cheryl Blossom’s brother, Jason, had been murdered by none other than his own father, and reacted with joy when you found out Betty and Jughead were now dating. Archie seemed to be doing well regarding his music, which you always knew was a passion of his, and Jughead was still writing, a strong suit of his.
Turning to Veronica, who had interjected throughout the conversation here and there but had never mentioned anything about her own life, you asked, “So, Veronica, how do you like Riverdale?”
Your three friends leaned back, amused, as they finished off the last of their milkshakes and allowed your conversation to advance. Veronica leaned forward, tilting her head as she responded, “Well, it’s certainly doesn’t have the appeal of New York, but it’s kind of comforting in it’s own way. And especially since I’ve found these amazing group of friends, I really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
“I feel the exact same way.” you chuckled. “Nowhere else in the world could compare to this little town.”
“You must tell me about your travels, though,” Veronica insisted, reaching her hand over to touch your arm. Jughead’s eyebrow arched at this, and he opened his mouth to presumably make some teasing remark when Archie quickly nudged him, stopping him. “I’d love to hear all about it.”
“Wow, it’s gotten late!” Betty suddenly exclaimed, looking at her phone. Shooting Archie and Jughead a pointed look, she asked, “Jug, would you mind giving me ride back home?”
“Sounds like a plan.” Jughead responded, smirking. “I was just thinking we should leave y/n and Veronica alone to lovingly gaze at each other, anyway.”
Veronica blushed slightly, her hand still lingering on your arm, and you couldn’t help but laugh. Turning to her, you asked, “How are you getting home?”
“Smithers was supposed to pick me up,” Veronica glanced out the window, noting the clear absence of her family’s car. “But he may be preoccupied with other things.”
“No problem.” you pulled out your car keys from your jeans. “I’ll drive you home.”
The five of you waved goodbye to Pop before you gave your friends another hug. Betty and Jughead got onto Jughead’s motorcycle before zooming away while Archie climbed into his dad’s car which he drove over, leaving you and Veronica alone. You opened the passenger seat door open for her before the both of you zoomed towards the Pembrooke, avidly discussing your favorite places in New York. By the time you parked the car and walked up to your apartment, you felt like you knew Veronica inside out, and she felt the same way. You never never clicked so well with another girl before, as if all the atoms in the universe aligned to arrange such a perfect meeting, the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle finally sliding into place.
“Well, this is my place.” you stopped outside your door. You didn’t even bother feeling bashful as you immediately asked, “Wanna come inside?”
Veronica raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile fluttering across her lips. “Your parents aren’t home?”
“They’ll be out late, having dinner with old friends and getting the family business back in line.” you explained. “My father never rests when it comes to business.”
“Now that sounds all too familiar.” Veronica chuckled, referring to her own family. You grinned at her, your gaze lingering at her eyes before flickering down to her lips. Veronica seemed to sense your intentions, taking closer as you leaned down, pressing your lips against hers. You intended for it to be short and sweet, but just as you pulled away, Veronica wrapped her arm around your neck before her other hand reached up to caress your face, deepening the kiss. You fumbled for your keys, unlocking the door before you and Veronica stumbled inside, caught in a tango with your lips, your hands wandering up and down each other’s body. You locked the door, the both of you shrugging off your coats before you reached down to pick Veronica up, her wrapping her legs around your waist as you walked into your bedroom.
--
It had been a month since you and Veronica had hooked up, and you still felt caught in a daze.
Just seeing her in the hallway, or even hearing Betty mention her name, was enough to bring a smile to your face. You had returned to Riverdale High, where you shared most of your classes with Veronica. One thing you liked about her was how bold and unapologetic she was -- there was never any awkwardness when the two of you saw each other for the first time after that night. She was even confident enough to remark about what a great time she had, to which your friends responded with surprised expressions.
However, there was one thing that was somewhat awkward between the two of you, and that was how to define your relationship.
The two of you were caught in a limbo, stuck in the strange where you were definitely more than friends, yet none of you had made a move to label yourselves boyfriend and girlfriend. Betty had asked the both of you if you were dating, yet you both hesitated to respond, glancing at each other with uncertainty instead. The two of you had met up quite often afterwards, whether it was just innocent outings or nights that led to other things. Although you didn’t know what Veronica was thinking, you had prepared yourself to talk with her about taking your relationship to the next level, but between classes, football practice and trying to catch up with other old acquaintances from Riverdale, you were incredibly busy.
You and your friends were in the common room before class, along with Cheryl, Kevin and Reggie, discussing the school’s upcoming talent show. You were sitting beside Veronica on the couches, and arm lazily draped around the back of her seat as Cheryl eagerly boasted about how Josie was definitely going to win, so the rest of the school shouldn’t bother trying. You suppressed a laugh, shaking your head as Veronica shot you a look in response to Cheryl.
“We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we, Cheryl?” Veronica challenged playfully. “Archie will be performing one of his original songs, and I’m planning on singing, too.”
“You can sing?” you asked her, surprised at this revelation. Veronica nodded at you, beaming, and you continued, “God, this is why I love you. Is there anything you can’t do?”
The entire room seemed to freeze, and you looked around in confusion before the gravity of your words suddenly sunk in. You could see Kevin mouth something to Betty in shock as Reggie burst out laughing, Cheryl wearing a similar smug grin at your sudden, accidental confession.
“Dude, you and Veronica?” Reggie exclaimed, raising his hand towards you for a high-five. “You’ve been back for what, barely a month, and you’ve already scored no less that Veronica Lodge?”
“Okay, that’s enough, Reg.” Archie quickly interjected, trying to salvage the situation, but you were already overcome with embarrassment. You quickly excused yourself, mumbling something about getting something from your locker before you rushed out, ignoring Veronica’s protests. You quickly walked down the hallway, intending on maybe hiding in the bathroom to compose yourself, when Veronica quickly caught up to you, grabbing your hand.
“Hey,” Veronica spun you around, and you were quick to avoid eye contact.
“Sorry for embarrassing you in there.” you said, and Veronica shook her head, putting her hands on your shoulders.
“You don’t need to apologize for anything.” she reassured you. “But… I guess what you said got me thinking -- we’ve never really talked about, well, us, have we?”
You shook your head. “I’ve been meaning to bring it up, but I wasn’t sure if this is what you wanted.”
“y/n, this is definitely what I want.” Veronica responded, looking at you with such earnestness you couldn’t help but feel better. “You’re such an amazing guy, and I’m sorry we didn’t have this conversation earlier.”
Smiling, you reached up to caress her face as you replied, “So I guess it’s official now, huh? That’s a huge relief.”
Veronica giggled as you leaned down to give her a quick kiss. As she pulled away, she whispered, “And for the record, I love you, too.”
