Just Desserts
Review/note:
Kitsunebi is my favorite writer in this fandom, and I am so excited to be able to recommend her and give her at least some of the tremendous amount of exposure she deserves.
Her stories are gorgeous, epic, romantic novels - that we as a fandom are so lucky to have in the form of Victuuri fanfiction - in which she explores every facet of Yuuri and Victor’s utterly inspirational love and the power it has to bring them out of their darkest places in ways that are true to real life: from the fluffy to the angsty, and the awkward to the smutty. But never too much - her stories are always about the full universal experience of life and love.
The settings of most of her works are AUs, and exceedingly original ones at that: her debut fic was an Old West AU, followed by an Ancient Greece AU, and she is now in the process of posting an enchanting near-future sci-fi AU in which Yuuri has ESP. They’re all meticulously researched - I always learn a thing or two reading her work! And she just really loves food and always works that into the fics? Like actual recipes?? but also one of her works is a smutty one-shot with a super creative use of custard…
Kitsunebi’s longest fics are hundreds of thousands of words in length, but she never posts before her fics are complete and edited, so you will never, ever be left waiting for updates. She also commissions art for her longfics! Not just cover art, either, but multiple commissions per work. She just goes all out and I love her for it. <3

works I have read by her: I have read all of her works (she has written a lot of works), but my favourites are Pigeon Alley, The World Opened With You,and the rain before the rainbow.
Why I’m recommending her: I’ve read a LOT of YOI fics, but I just REALLY like hers. She writes beautifully. I don’t even understand how she writes that beautifully. I’ve probably reread the three I listed at least 5 times. I created a tumblr just so I could submit this review, actually. (I found this site and blog a while ago, but forgot to submit a review for her!) I think she’s really underrated in the writing community, but I don’t even know why. I started talking to her (it was nervewracking, and it’s a little embarrassing that I’m writing this, but I’m doing it as a Christmas present… sort of), and she is SO NICE!? Her writings are just so good. She brings her own touch of originality to her stories too. Pigeon Alley is one of my favourite fanfictions I’ve EVER read. I think everyone should read her works. She has written a lot for YOI too. Her stories… made a big impact on me. She honestly inspired me to write again (I kind of already let her know this, but it’s TRUE, and I want other people to know that too). Her writing is just something to look up to, I think. She uses a lot of repetition to get her meaning across, which is ! so cool! Her writing just feels very RAW and REAL, and not many other writers can do it to her level. At least, I haven’t read many others. She just captures emotions really well and her writing is so gorgeous. Please go read at least one of her works!
I’m sorry this is so long!!! I just really wish she wasn’t so underrated! Her blog is also a really good blog! It’s one of my favourites. (: Thank you so much XD

Some examples of the writer’s works: Entwining Fates, I am Yuri Plisetsky, Zanka
Review/critique/say about the writer:
Rinsled05 is such a versatile writer! Fluff, angst, smut, one-shots, comedy, multichapter fics, character studies, AUs, they do it all with superb and evocative characterization and description! To read their fic is to immerse yourself in their world.
Honestly I’d recommend every single story but then I’d be filling up the screen (they wrote “You Only Live Once” which was previously featured on this blog, too, and which I also enthusiastically recommend ;) ) I chose “Entwining Fates” (Hogwarts AU) because it was what initially drew me into their work, with their worldbuilding with Mahoutokoro and Yuuri’s traumatic backstory; “I am Yuri Plisetsky” because it’s a shorter piece that imho really encapsulates Yuri’s emotions regarding how he wants himself and his skating to be perceived, and does it all in Yuri’s POV and voice that is just perfect; and"Zanka,“ their newest WIP about the "floating world” of courtesans and prostitutes in Yoshiwara during the Edo period that is just gorgeous. Heavily researched, and you can tell the care they take with their writing and all the characters. Can I quote some lines?
“The courtesan’s white teeth clacked against the pipe in a razor-sharp smile, keen as a shark on the prowl.”
“The room was large and decadent, filled with gold screens of delicately painted landscapes, polished chests lacquered with gold leaves, and the painting of a rising dragon across the length of a wall. Right in the center, beside white bedding and a tray of drinks, sat Aoyagi, resting on his heels and looking for all the world like a living, breathing doll. Gone was the white powder, but his eyes were still painted at the corners, his lips still a crimson red. His outer robes had changed into an exuberant yellow, a pattern of waves and goldfishes trailing round and round the bright material. The sash was black tonight, folded neatly and hanging over his lap.”
Just - just go and read everything they’ve ever written, is all I’m gonna say *flails*

Review/critique/say about the writer:
Masquerade was the second fanfic I read in the fandom, and oh my god it’s such an amazing story!!! There’s just something about her writing that I really like, the way she hits you right in the feels with the angst (I may or may not have teared up a few times reading Masquerade), but then balances it out with just the right amount of fluff, and I also really like the characterization in her stories as well :) and oh lord, the smut….. it’s written in such a way that it is deliciously sexy and hot, yet you can also feel the emotions between the characters and oh god I really can’t explain it, just check out her writing!!!

Some works works: - Blackbird - a constant satellite - The Long Way Round (WIP)
I’ve always enjoyed long fanfics with great detailed plots and intricate characterization, hence when I got into the Yuri!!! On Ice fandom, I immediately went after every recommended story with an interesting concept. I stumbled across Blackbird from afanfic recommendation blog on tumblr, categorised under “Spies/Assassins AU.” Imagine my surprise when beside the James Bond-esque fics, I found a sort of WW2 AU, that so greatly impressed me in its beginning paragraphs that just like that I was sucked into the story, intrigued.
And let me tell you, if I love a story, I will literally go through it in one sitting… which I did for Blackbird as I spent my entire Saturday reading through 7 chapters of this magnificent AU that contains such details that I would find in a best selling novel, I swear! Sixpences broke my heart at least twice through my reading marathon with quite elegantly phrased words (which I in no way can be up to match in this recommendation), surprising plotline and philosophical narration that had me immersed in the story. In ways it has also given me a sort of epiphany as I realise the empathetic connection I have to the characters she writes. Also the simple domestic scenes and the contrasting suspenseful action ones balances out to create an incredible story that just leaves me gaping at the fluid transitions that she creates in it.
I’ve also read her other works, which holds the same elements that surely proves the level of skills she has. Sixpences’s creativity and passion in writing could create works that I think could be on the NYTimes Best Selling novel for weeks! 10/10 would recommend anything that she writes!
Let me be crude here: I can’t stress enough that this person wrote one of the best YOI fic I’ve ever read and you need to go read her work!!! She’s just an wonderful writer and I honestly can say that I have reread Blackbird 3 times, and religiously following The Long Way Round for updates. SO YEAH GUYS, GIVE HER LOVE!

Some examples of the writer’s works: Rivals (currently includes Until my Feet Bleeds and MY Heart Aches, Of Bright Stars and Burning Hearts
Review/critique/say about the writer:
I am pretty sure there will be plenty of reviews about Reiya or Kaz, but I wanted to give my two cents anyways. Well, where to start? If you have been reading Victuuri fanfictions for some time, you certainly would have heard about “Until my feet bleeds and my heart aches” or UMFB&MHA for short. Especially if you use the filters and go for the fic with the highest kudos (now it even surpassed RIvDev’s YCPFE, so kudos for that lol). Else, perhaps by reading some comments in other fics where it is mentioned… or like me, when it happened to be in the 1st page because it happened to be updated that day and you were incautious enough to click when it was on the 8th chapter, months ago (I’ll expand on the incautious statement in a bit). I wouldn’t go as far as to say she is an experienced writer: her main and only work (so far) is the Rivals AU (no other fandoms either, at least in AO3); however, she certainly has talent for it and pours herself into telling you a very detailed story. Sure, might be just one, but is one hell of a long ride.
I’ll start by saying that she writes a lot… A LOT. Originally, she started with around 10k word count… and in later chapters she ended up delivering 20k+ per chapter. She is going around the same count for her Rivals AU companion story, Of Bright Stars and Burning Hearts. Sometimes, I have to admit it did feel like there were too many words to describe the same feeling. She focuses a lot in being very descriptive with the situation and what the character is feeling and their perception of the situation… from THAT character’s point of view I must add. That is why she is now in the process of writing a companion story.
The level of detail in her work is stunning. You can tell she cares about portraying the characters the best she can with her writing, but she doesn’t stay there. She gives the reader other hints with music and other elements such as social media and press that she herself add. I would even say that her tumblr is another part of the story as well. Everything added up shows how much detail and work she has put into crafting this story.
Her characters and the way they act in the situations she crafts make sense. She does not give you black or white; she goes for well-crafted human beings with their good traits and faults. She took the YOI characters and made them her own in her story. She makes sure she portrays more realistic characters, thus making them less predictable imho.
Her writing keeps you very enthralled, mesmerized… no way to get out of that hook: she is very careful at giving her readers hints throughout the story but never outside. She makes sure to give you just enough information to keep wanting more. I found her fic when she was on chapter 8 out of 14… I’ve had a love-hate relationship with that decision. Couldn’t stop re-reading her fic for weeks. I don’t remember doing that except for YOI itself when I started watching when it was on the 9th chapter and well… “It’s not finished but It’s an ice skating anime, what could go wrong?” I’ve lived to regret that statement. I’ll admit that due to that, I decided to not read OBS&BH …YET. Can’t die over something you don’t know about. I’ll I have my OBS&BH fest once it’s done.
Finally, she is a VERY approachable writer. Despite the f*ckton of comments she receives, she somehow manages to answer every comment that tumblr did not eat and in AO3 as well. I’ll admit I actually did a tumblr myself only to keep up with the information about UMHB&MHA… Geez. Sometimes a writer tends to start something and may get discouraged or simply, life happens along the way. This can make some readers wary. In kazliin’s case, she appears to have a lot going on in her personal life, like anyone. However, she is kind enough to keep her readers updated in regards her work progress and stays communicated which is in my opinion very important in a fanfic writer. Why? Well, readers want to know if the story is going to continue or if it’s abandoned.
I am cannot tell if this will be her one and only masterpiece; she seems to have plans for a Hogwarts AU after her Rivals AU its completely done. Even so, if you are looking for a Victuuri writer that will take you for a long… LONG… well balanced smut/angst/slowburn/smut/smut/angst/happy ending ride while still being in communication with you, I’d suggest you go by her page. At this point, I believe that she herself did not think her story would reach and inspire as many people as it has. While her talent as a writer is latent, I would say good part of that success is her commitment and approachability. I’d invite you to give her story and specially HER, a visit. You will be delighted ^^.
