Overview: Toji can’t stop thinking about you, but wait—why aren’t you answering the phone?
Toji’s POV
It was a stupid argument.
That’s the part that keeps me up at night. Not betrayal. Not something unforgivable. Just two stubborn people who both wanted to win more than they wanted to bend. Now I’ve got an apartment that doesn’t smell like her shampoo and a bed that feels too big even when I sleep diagonally. I tell myself I’m giving her space. That’s what mature men do. Space. Patience. Growth.
I lasted exactly six days. On the seventh, I cave. Megumi usually FaceTimes me before bed, but tonight she doesn’t answer. That unsettles me more than I’d like to admit. I called again. Nothing.
By the third attempt, I’m pacing. I imagine ridiculous things. What if she’s out? What if she’s busy? What if some guy is there and my kid is sitting in his house while—
The call finally connects.
“Daddy!” Megumi’s voice bursts through the speaker, loud and delighted.
Relief floods me so fast I have to sit down. “Hey, champ. Where’s Mama?” “She’s with Tommy.”
I blink.
“With who?”
“Tommy! He’s fixing the TV.” He says it proudly, like this Tommy is a national hero.
The TV. The one I was supposed to mount before we argued about whose turn it was to pick up groceries.
“Oh,” I say, too calm. “Is he nice?”
“Uh-huh! He’s tall.” A giggle. “Hes close to Mama.”
Something in my chest tightens.
“Close how?”
“Like this!” I hear shuffling, then a muffled, “Megumi didn’t mama tell you to sit over there? There are screws over here you could hurt your fee— “ you nagged before another voice cut you off, “Damn Y/n hold still!” And not even in a stern or mean tone, They were giggling.
Hold still.
I stand up so fast my chair nearly tips over.
“I’ll call you back, buddy.”
I don’t even remember grabbing my keys.
I just remember driving.
Your POV
You were steadying the TV when the door burst open.
Not knocked. Not tapped. Opened.
“Hey!” he barked.
The screwdriver in Tommy’s hand paused mid-whirr. You blinked over your shoulder, confused for half a second before recognition hit. Of course.
Of course he’d show up like this. Megumi looked up from the carpet, clutching his toy car. “Daddy!”
You were still on your toes, palms flat against the cool frame of the brand-new TV. “Toji, What are you doing here?” He didn’t answer you. He was staring at Tommy. Specifically, at how close Tommy was standing behind you. Tommy had one hand braced against the wall beside your head for leverage, the other tightening the last screw. It wasn’t intimate. It was physics. Your ex didn’t see physics. He saw proximity.
“Back the hell up, the fuck are you doing?” he said, voice tight.
Tommy blinked. “Man, I’m just mounting the TV.”
“And you need to be on top of her to do that?”
You dropped back onto your heels. “Excuse me?”
Megumi scooted closer to the couch, sensing the shift but not understanding it.
Tommy stepped back slightly, confused. “There’s literally no other angle man.”
Your ex moved fast. Too fast. He shoved Tommy in the chest. It wasn’t a punch. It wasn’t brutal.
But it was enough. “Hello?! Are you insane?” you snapped, stepping between them.
Toji ignored you. “You think this is funny?” Tommy raised his hands. “Listen, I don't want problems, man.”
“Oh yeah? I’ll fuckin kill you.” Heat flared in your chest. Not from embarrassment.
From fury. You could see it in his face now. Not rage exactly. Something uglier and softer at the same time. Jealousy. Raw. Unfiltered. Ridiculous.
He stepped forward again.
And before you even thought about it—
Your hand moved.
CRACK
The sound rang through the apartment. Your palm stung instantly. Silence swallowed the room whole. His head turned with the force of it, eyes wide, more stunned than angry. Megumi froze.
Tommy looked like he wanted to evaporate. “You do not,” you said, your voice shaking but sharp, “come into my home and put your hands on anyone just because you’re jealous.”
There it was. The word hung in the air between you.
Jealous. His jaw tightened. “I’m not—” “You barged in. You shoved him. Over the TV.”
Tommy cleared his throat awkwardly. “I’m actually gonna head out.”
“Good idea,” you muttered.
The door clicked shut behind him.
Now it was just you. Him. And the quiet hum of the TV screen saver bouncing across the wall like it was trying to avoid eye contact. Megumi crawled toward you, uncertain. “Mama?”
You knelt instantly, pulling him into your arms. “It’s okay, baby.”
You could feel your ex watching. Not angry anymore. Just… shaken.
He rubbed his cheek slowly. “He said he was close to you.”
“He’s just tall.”
“--and when He said ‘hold still?’”
“I was holding the bracket!”
Your voice echoed louder than you meant it to. He dragged a hand through his dark hair, pacing once like he didn’t know where to put his energy. “I heard his name and I just—”
“You what?” you demanded. “Forgot you don’t live here anymore?” That landed. He stopped moving.
“I panicked,” he admitted. “Over a friend from college?”
“Over you.” His voice cracked slightly, frustration bleeding into something honest. “Over someone else being in my place.” Your eyes narrowed. “Your place?”
“You know what I mean.” “No,” you said firmly. “I don’t.” Megumi’s small hand fisted in your shirt.
He swallowed hard, the fight draining out of him in real time. “I don’t want to be replaced.”
The anger in your chest faltered. “I’m not dating him,” you said. “Yeah, I know that now.”
“Then act like it.” He looked around the apartment like he was seeing it for the first time. The new TV. The rearranged couch. The space slowly adjusted without him. “I hate that I’m not here,” he muttered. That was different. Not possessive. Not loud.
Just real. You stood slowly, still holding Megumi. “You don’t get to storm in every time you’re scared.”
“I know.” “Then prove it.”
He looked at you then, really looked at you. Not at the wall. Not at the door. Not at the imagined man behind you.
You.
And something softened in his expression.
“I just…” He exhaled. “I miss you.”
The sting in your palm finally faded.
The sting in your chest didn’t.
Megumi looks up, confused. “Daddy mad?”
The question slices through the tension like a soft bell.
His father crouches immediately, the anger draining out of him as fast as it came. “No, buddy. Daddy’s not mad.” He glances at me, quieter. “Just… surprised.”
I step down from the small stool, arms crossing. “You don’t get to act like that. We’re separated.”
“Over an argument,” he says. “One argument.”
“One argument that mattered.”
He stands, slow, careful now, like he’s approaching something fragile. “I never stopped choosing you.”
“That doesn’t mean you didn’t walk away.”
He opens his mouth, then closes it. That’s new. Usually he has a comeback locked and loaded. Instead, he looks around the apartment—the new TV, the half-finished little changes—and something soft flickers in his eyes.
“You redecorated,” he says.
“Don’t,” I warn.
“You always said you hated that bare wall.”
Megumi toddles over and tugs on his pant leg. “Daddy see TV?”
His father chuckles weakly. “Yeah, buddy. Daddy sees it.”
I lift Megumi onto my hip, instinctive, grounding. “You can’t just show up and scare people off.”
“I didn’t scare him off,” he mutters. “I… encouraged him.”
I glare.
He sighs, scrubbing a hand down his face. “Okay. I messed up. Big time.” A pause. Then, softer, almost sheepish. “But tell me you wouldn’t feel the same if Megumi told you I had some woman over to help me decorate.”
I hesitate.
He catches it instantly, lips curving despite himself. “Thought so.”
“That doesn’t mean you get to throw punches.”
“No,” he agrees. “It means I get jealous quietly like a normal person.”
Silence settles again, but this time it’s warmer. Less sharp. The TV hums faintly as Megumi presses buttons on the remote. I know. I just… don’t want to be replaced.”
“You’re his father,” I say. “That’s not replaceable.”
“I meant to you.”
That lands harder than the slap did.
Megumi yawns, resting his head against my shoulder. I adjust him, instinctively, and his father watches the movement like it’s something sacred.
“Stay,” I say before I can stop myself. “Just until he falls asleep.”
He brightens instantly, trying not to show it. “Yeah?”
“Don’t read into it.”
“Too late.”
1st person POV
We sat on opposite ends of the couch, Megumi stretched between us like a bridge. His small hand curls around both our fingers as sleep takes him.
When his breathing evens out, his father leans closer, voice low and teasing again. “So… no more Tommys?”
I smirk. “Only if you promise no mysterious Decorators.”
He grins. “Deal.”
Our shoulders brush. I lay my head on his shoulder as we gaze at the children’s show on the partially installed TV.
Neither of us moves away.
And for the first time since the door first closed between us, it doesn’t feel locked anymore. Megumi falls asleep sprawled between us, one sock missing, his breathing slow and warm. His father lifts him carefully, like he’s handling glass, and carries him to his room. I watch from the hallway, arms folded, pretending my chest doesn’t ache at how natural he looks doing it.
When he comes back, he doesn’t leave.
He leans against the counter, eyeing the half-empty mug of tea in my hand. “You always drink chamomile when you’re pretending to be calm.”
“I am calm.”
“You slapped me earlier.”
“I was very calm about it.”
He laughs quietly, then winces playfully. “You’ve still got a mean right hook.”
I set my mug down. “I said I was sorry.”
“You said, ‘You scared my kid and my handyman.’”
“That counts.”
He steps closer, close enough that I can smell his cologne. Familiar. Dangerous. “You know I didn’t mean to lose it.”
“I know,” I admit. “You just… care too loudly.”
He smiles at that. “You still know me too well.”
The silence stretches, not awkward, just heavy with everything unsaid. He reaches up, hesitates, then gently brushes his thumb against my wrist. Testing. Asking without words.
“Does it still hurt?” I ask, nodding toward his cheek.
“Only my pride,” he says. “And maybe my heart. A little.”
I roll my eyes, but my mouth betrays me with a smile. “You’re dramatic.”
“You fell in love with me anyway.”
“That was before I knew better.”
He tilts his head. “Did you?”
I don’t answer. I don’t have to. My pulse does it for me.
He moves a fraction closer. Not touching. Waiting. The space between us feels electric, alive, like it’s daring one of us to cross it.
“You know,” he murmurs, “if you ever decide to stop being stubborn… I’m still right here.”
I lift my chin. “And if you ever decide to stop being annoying?”
“Never gonna happen.”
I laugh, breathless, and that’s when it happens. My laugh fades, his gaze drops to my mouth, and the world narrows down to that small, impossible distance.
He leans in slowly, giving me time to stop him.
I don’t.
The kiss is soft at first, tentative, like we’re both remembering how. His hand comes to my waist, warm and steady. Mine fists in his shirt, betraying me completely.
It’s not rushed. It’s not desperate. It’s careful, sweet, loaded with history. When we pull back, our foreheads rest together, both of us breathing a little too fast. We’ve already gone this far so fuck it. I lean in once more, catching his scarred grin into another kiss, bringing my hands up his chest and into his hair. “This is what you wanted all along huh?” I ask in between kisses. He only hums and chuckles, not pulling away to speak as he effortlessly hoists me up onto the kitchen counter standing between my legs. I could feel his bulge pressing against the warm core. “Don’t act like you didn’t miss this, every inch” he whispered, letting his breath ghost over my ear. “Fuck, I should really kick you out.” I laughed breathlessly throwing my head back, he took that as an opportunity to kiss and nip at my neck pulling a gasp from my lips.
“Cmon Sweetheart, I just wanna take care of you.” He groans in my ear softly. I practically melted into his touch, shit. His fingers find their way into my shorts making me exhale. “Already so wet for daddy—“ I slap his arm as he laughs, “Don’t tease me with that ‘daddy’ shit Toji.” “Ok ok, sit back for me” he says. I lean back and bare down on my elbows letting him pull my shorts down, then my panties. He looked down at them biting his scarred lip then looking back up at me putting them in the pocket of his grey sweat pants. “Your such a pervert Toji, what are you even gonna do with tho—“ I abruptly gasp when he plunged two fingers into your wet cunt, curving them up as he fucked you slowly with them. “Fuck, I fuckin missed this, so pretty.” He practically moaned into my mouth leaning his larger frame over me as he worked his digits into me, rubbing my spongey walls making me wrap my arms around his neck, “Tojiii—Fuck.” “Yeah Baby you like that? That’s my girl.” He chuckled, pulling his fingers out and putting them in his mouth making a lewd sucking sound as he relished in the taste. He was filthy.
The whole scene was something out of a porno, The beads of sweat on his forehead made his dark head of hair stick to his face and his lips glistened in the light with a mixture of slick and saliva—and don’t get me started on that look in his eyes, hooded and filled with Lust. “Did you fuck him?” He suddenly popped the question out of the blue. “No, Toji” “Why not, hm?” He asked nipping at my neck while rubbing wet sloppy circles into my clit making me shudder with pleasure, “cus—Shit I don’t know, did you want me to?” I stuttered curling my toes at the edging feeling. “Don’t fuck with me, He couldn’t fuck you how you like it even if he tried.” I giggled, “and how’s that?”
“You like it slow, And deep—like it when I hit that spot over and over, fuck-and you like it sloppy n’ wet. So fuckin wet—Like watchin My cum ooze out.” He trailed off biting his lip while his eyes stayed glued to the way my wet sopping cunt sucked his fingers back in over and over, He was totally gone. I wouldve laughed at his fucked out expression if my breath wasn’t gone, your vision blurred as you moaned out, “Toji M’gonna cum—wait,” I whimpered, he then pulled out again this time lifting my legs to rest on his shoulders as he kneeled diving his head I between my legs sticking his tongue into my wet Core. Veiny forearms flexing as his gripped my plush thighs with one hand and my waist with another to keep me in place while he worked me with his tongue, “f-fuck Toji don’t stop, please—please” I Rambled on gripping a fistful of his dark hair smushing his face into my cunt. He laughed sending vibrations up throughout my body, I felt that familiar feeling growing in my belly. “Cum for me Sweetheart, Let go I’ve got you. So fuckin beautiful like this—Lettin Daddy take good care of you, as it should be.” He spoke into my pussy before snaking his hand up to mine intertwining our fingers while staring up at me with those sultry eyes, that’s when a wave of pleasure rushed over me. A saw white as Squirting my warm juices onto him, he lapped it up moaning taking his fingers into his mouth as if he was finishing a meal—I guess to him it was. I was now coming down from my high, out of breath watching My ex Plant Tender kisses on my Swollen Cunt then proceeding up stopping at my belly before finally kissing my lips passionately. We were both now out of breath staring into each other’s eyes as if there was something we wanted to say but couldn’t. I subconsciously held my arms out to him and he lifted me off the counter taking me to the bedroom. He sat me on the bed, then proceeded to take off his wet shirt, “Can I get my underwear back now?” I asked, still sitting in nothing but a shirt, he just laughed before flopping onto the bed dragging me along with him. Laying in eachothers arms with our faces just inches away, we even talked for a bit about random Memories and how confusing it was navigating parent hood in the beginning. And just for a moment it all felt so real, as if nothing went wrong to begin with.
We both dozed off like that, Closer than we’d been in weeks since we broke up. Curse him and that fucked up ability to make me Cave. I really hated Him, and his stupidly long fingers.
