i honestly can't really understand coming away from half his age by jennette mccurdy thinking that it's romanticizing teacher-student relationships seemingly just because it contains graphic sex scenes or because the protagonist is the one to initially pursue the teacher.

mr. korgy is clearly such a loser who sees a chance to prey on a young girl from a terrible home life who hero worships him in a way his wife doesn't. the sex scenes invoke such gross imagery that i genuinely felt nauseated reading them, which is clearly what mccurdy set out to do, so good job to her on that, lol.

that being said, i do think mccurdy's writing style leaves A LOT to be desired. the writing is pretty choppy and juvenile in a way that doesn't feel intentional. you can very clearly tell who her influences are, especially ottessa moshfegh (whom i love!), but i wish she would find a bit more of her own voice instead of seeming to mimic what she thinks is cool. i also don't really like how the book just... ends. i think that an ending very similar to the one we get could've been great for this story, but as written, it feels very abrupt in a way that, to me, honestly kind of feels like she knew how she wanted it to go but was no longer sure how to get there.
