So I'm reading a book called 'Amy & Roger's Epic Detour'
And, well, it's about a girl named Amelia, shortened to Amy, with fiery red hair, who is adventuring now with a guy she knew when she was a child, but hasn't seen in a long time.
I can turn everything into a Doctor Who reference!
In all seriousness, though, it's a good book. Amy is trying to face the fact that she crashed a car with her father in it (I'm assuming. It hasn't actually said it yet. It's one of those books where it's leading up to her crying and telling Roger everything, right before they fall in love and discover lots of things about themselves), and Roger just got dumped and he kind of has no idea why and he's all sad about it. they're driving together from California to Connecticut, and they've decided to make it a classic "road trip," like the kind where you just go places and there's no plan.
Also, last night, I finished the last Alex Rider book (Scorpia Rising). *HERE BE SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS, STOP READING THIS AND GO CHECK OUT STORMBREAKER. THEY'RE GOOD BOOKS. OKAY.*
(and anyway, if you haven't read the books, you won't have a clue what I'm saying.)
I kind of went into it like, 'Mr. Horowitz, how on Earth are you gonna get Alex out to spy for you this time?' And then, to my surprise (not), Mr. Blunt pulled his, 'We don't need you to do anything dangerous. Just have some gadgets. We have agents there doing all the work, you just need to listen in on a few conversations... blah, blah' thing. And Alex fell for it. Worse, he brought Jack. I mean, I don't blame him for bringing her, but he was actually really excited to have her there, she came with him when he did spy things. It was really only a matter of time before she was kidnapped. Then Anthony Horowitz deviated from his usual evil character's monologue, 'This is what I'll be doing, have a slow death. I'll just leave you here to outwit me, Alex. Have fun. I'll see you tomorrow and manage to be really surprised that you escaped the slow painful death I had all planned out for you.' Instead, we had the evil guy say he was going to cause Alex lots of pain, and then he did. He killed Jack. I didn't think you could do that. He practically killed Alex. Literally every scene from then on, somebody brought up the fact that Alex looked empty and broken, and for once in my life I could picture it, and it was really sad, because Alex always makes wisecracks and stuff, and now he was just sitting there. Miraculously, though, he did manage to stop an assassination attempt on the American secretary of state, kill the kid who looked exactly like him but was actually an evil twisted boy (long story), and lead the CIA and whatever the Egyptian version of that is in to kill the bad guy. Who he got to watch drown in salt. And then, after all that, they found him kneeling by the car Jack had died/exploded in. It was really... sad. Heartbreaking? Anyway, not a happy ending. So of course I had to read more books, and that is why I stayed up until 6:00 reading and didn't get up until 1. But it ended up being a really good book, since I tend to enjoy sad books like that. I'm done.
