6th book of the year: Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. Somewhere during the many readings of Charlotte Brontë's Janet Eyre, I became very curious about Bertha Mason and the frustration and madness that enveloped her. Jean Rhys does a brilliant job giving more life and personality to this imprisoned woman. This book is the frustration, trauma, violence and sorrow that created Bertha Mason.
