hey i would vvv much like to join :))) but idk how discord works, could you pls let me know?
hey anon! it’s basically a messaging app (mobile/desktop app or u can just use their website) but it’s got a little more 'organisation’ options so it suits things like gaming/networks/other groups! ours is just smol and chill though there are MUCH bigger groups out there! :’)
so you can join different servers which people have created if you have a link/it’s public, and in a server, there will be different ‘channels’ for different discussions so it’s not a hot mess!!
like i’ve created #general, #intro, #book suggestions, #notices #short stories & there’s other useful functions like emoji reactions, @/mentions, having different ‘roles’, and so on which are helpful for whoever has ‘admin’ rights in the server (me. it’s me aha).
ah idk if i’m explaining this well or overcomplicating it, but you can’t do anything silly (u don’t have the permissions for it if you’re not the admin!) and promise that it’s fairly intuitive to navigate and easy to pick up the functions as a new user! hope this helps clear it up a little 💓
hi all! so this has previously been a reading group primarily based on google drive with pdfs to comment on/highlight parts - in essence, a travelling books project without the postage hassle!
but as it’s summer & i have the energy to revive this a little, i want to make it a) more discussion friendly b) generally a more relaxed format to run and c) add in online short stories/essays for more contemporary lit - so the plan is to set up a reading group on discord alongside the google drive (so we can have different discussion channels)!!
if you’d be interested & willing to use discord (regardless of whether you were part of the group formerly!), send @midsumner a message and (edit): i'll send you a link to join - everyone welcome but please be over 18! 💓
hey ! i wanted to join the reading collective, but since i'm a lit student i already have a lot to read atm, especially with finals coming up so would it be possible to join during my semester break ? :)
hey, of course! if you’re already subscribed to the tinyletter, then just start whenever you’re on break otherwise check here (specifically the how do i join section!) + good luck for finals !! <3
hello! I would like to participate in your reading collective, but I'm a bit shy, and also not sure if I'm too late. can I? do you guys know each other? do I need to vote to participate or can I just hop in when the choice is made?
hey anon! no, you wouldn’t be late at all, anyone can join whenever they want (and we’ve only just started as is, most people haven’t started reading yet!)
i can’t speak for others but personally i hadn’t interacted w most people in it prior to this! can promise that you’d be very welcome - it’s definitely not an exclusive invite only clique by any means!! otherwise i wouldn’t post about it aha. (i mean it’s an ‘invite yourself’ situation tbf but u get what i mean hopefully)
and the choice has already been made this time round so you can just hop on! just check out the details here and do come join!
lmk if u have any further questions via ask or msg, either is fine!! much love <3
due to the fact that i’m also a harlot for collecting information (the way a magpie collects shiny tiny things) i always forced myself through the great classics of humankind to understand references and cite them myself (like the gilmore girls reference modern pop culture, i’m over here referencing greek mythology and obscure 20th century poets).
therefore, when the idea of the reading collective showed up on my dash i was more than thrilled!
whenever i finish writing a book, i shoo my muses through the gdoc in comment mode. the idea to do the same thing now but for accomplished authors (ovid will be my first read), is parts amusing parts enthralling.
while i’m certain the first try will be quite messy (let’s hope we don’t stress the creator, yenna out too much), i’m ready to meet lots of new people and enjoy my time!
here’s to you, reading collective! let’s make this work together!
okay as per this post, here’s the update! if you missed the post but are interested, no worries - this is still in early stages so hop on in!!
updates: just read this page and follow the steps!
bit of a boring post alas but three things
obviously, we’ve got to test the waters + iron out issues first but i’m being optimistic and was thinking, if it works out, we could choose book/s bimonthly or quarterly?!!
the fun part is obvs book choice! will be a group decision so i’ve compiled the book suggestions so far - pls vote on them ! (below)
(this is the third point, bear with) as promised, i have tagged everyone who commented but some people have the search thing off so i can’t tag you - which is understandable and u don’t need to change that! but had a think and honestly a tinyletter (email newsletter) situation would be easier (for me) instead of a tag list which will invariably be a nightmare to keep up to date & doesn’t even fully work? also would allow u to take a break from tumblr and still be up to speed w updates + remove/add yourself at your own leisure!
so action points on the above (i am sorry that sounds so... corporate, we will get through this asap) !!!
vote on a book on this google sheet (sorry i’m sick of polls, pls don’t delete stuff) closed as i have now collated the books !
(email sent for this round! message me if you want in!) subscribe to this neat tinyletter as i think it’ll be easier than manually keeping an up to date tag list, i promise to not spam u if we do go ahead with this option!
edit: tinyletter will be the primary go to for the main updates so i don’t have to keep a taglist but will put reminders and so on in #readingcollective tag !
