there is so much to say about this Ellie situation - I’v been just fuming for the last couple hours reading my twitter/ tumblr feed. and I’ve been wondering how best to respond- and truthfully I am at a total lost for words.
The whole thing is wild- but it honestly just leaves me really sad and hurt.
At this point- who cares if “Ellie” was a fake- I know in my heart that if Ellie was a really life girl - absolutely nothing would have been different. Because it’s literally the same thing that happens to women in this community EVERY fuckin time we log on (look at Geguri when she first joined contenders).
Every women across many games know what it’s like to log on and made to feel uncomfortable. Made to feel like if you speak on coms some one is going to treat you differently. to feel like someone is belittling you or harassing you because of your gender - that is undoubtedly a very real pain for many of us.
This whole “experiment” is just a re-living of that “trauma” - a reminder that there are so many people in this community that are bigots. A reminder that women are unwelcome in esports and gaming communities. A reminder that people don’t hear us when we talk about what it’s like being a woman in this community.
Lastly, I will say that Blizzard BETTER make a statement- They owe at least that to the women in this community. I am so done- i want fines, i want bans- They need to make a promise to improve their reporting system and announce harsher treatment against reports of sexism.
