hi!! i saw your posts sorta recently about all the coloring you have to do for gifs, and i realized i don't actually know anything about the process it takes to make a gif. i assumed you just trim a video and throw it in a convertor, but that really doesn't seem to be the case lol. so since i'm curious and nosey and like learning things, could you perhaps explain the process? :0

omgg eia hii <3 idk how well i can explain the process but i hope u learn something from this😭 mary's giffing process under the cut !

step 1 - download video and get timestamps of what scenes u want to gif. i usually use jdownloader2 for youtube videos and get what ever is the best quality i can find. i use weverse downloader for weverse lives.

step 2 - throw timestamps into vapourscript which will open the resizer where u can sharpen/ resize etc the video to ur liking ! it looks like this

step 2 cont. - once ur done with that u have to throw in the script thats in the box on the right hand side into the vapoursynth editor where u have to encode the video and turn it into png screencaps

step 3 - after all of that its time to throw ur screencaps into photoshop ! i load the screencaps into a stack and photoshop does some magic and opens it up as layers where i then convert it into frames and then reverse it/ set frame delay etc and then use an action to sharpen it and then convert it into a timeline. i then duplicate the smart layers and sharpen/ blur/ add noise to make it look good idk man. if the video has captions i usually blur them during this stage

step 4 - its colouring time! this is where the rawdogging officially begins. i genuinely do not have a solid process for this its different for everything i gif. i basically colour the video until it looks good to me using curves, selective colour, colour balance, vibrance etc etc. this is literally when i just do whatever i want until i vibe😭 sometimes colouring is easy, sometimes its the bane of my existence but we push on anyway😭

step 5 - time to save ur file as a gif ! i use an action that automatically converts the timeline back into frames. then u gotta rmr to set the frame delay and loop again and then u can save the file as a gif for web🤩 this is basically when photoshop decides to throw all ur hard work in the trash bc it cant handle all the colours and its compresses every thing and ur gif doesnt end up looking how u wanted it anyway. also u gotta make sure it isnt over 10mb or else tumblr will shit itself and wont let u upload ur prettie gif :(

step 6 - repeat above steps for all the gifs in ur gifset. once ur done, upload them on tumblr so u can get 4 rbs and 10 likes <3
