honestly it’s amazing to me how straight men always manage to turn the “bodyshaming” argument against feminists when we complain about typical casting choices in h*wood. this is apropos of absolutely nothing on my dash, i was just thinking abt both when ga.l ga.dot was cast as wondy and br.ie la.rson as carol.

you see, when feminists cry “bodyshaming,” we’re talking about other people policing what our bodies should and should not look like. we’re standing up for the body types that you don’t see in every piece of media ever---the average body types in reality, the body types with tubby bellies and saggy breasts and stretch marks. body types that have wide hips w/ small breasts or wide shoulders w/ straight hips.

when people complain abt ga.l ga.dot as wondy or br.ie la.rson as carol, we’re complaining abt the fact that the only body type h*wood execs ever seem to WANT to see are the thin body types---the types that don’t break their idea of the feminine norm, that don’t challenge how women are seen, and that don’t threaten the masculinity of their costars. ga.l ga.dot and br.ie la.rson can look howevery THEY WANT---nobody is telling THEM how to look in these instances---we’re telling the CASTING DIRECTORS that they’re valuing the wrong things in their decision-making.

and when str8 men cry “bodyshaming” at this, they successful derail BOTH arguments. so, like... thanks for THAT.
