It’s a beautiful day in London today, so before I run some errands and meet a friend for dinner and a poetry open mike, I’m in the park with a packed lunch, a book and a notebook. I’m letting myself enjoy the crisp breeze and the present but dulcet sun. It’s so lovely to have the pleasantness of the light without the harsh heat. I’m feeling that quiet contentment I get from being alone and being in London.

Gustave Flaubert, cited in Jackie Kay's 'Reality, Reality'.
