Dark hateful eyes didn’t flicker as they lifted, never breaking contact. “My mother was so hungry for power she mated with a god. An old god, older than any your people could ever imagine. He still roams free. My mother, she used me as a weapon. I told you I had hurt people, that I had been controlled...”

The blond watched as shadows around the room seemed to flicker. Emma did not like that at all; it was as if they were coming to life.

Emma felt a shiver run down her spine, she was indeed out of her depth. “Regina…” she watched as a dark look passed the brunette’s eyes, “Just how powerful are you?”

Regina could have been in Canada, at home, she could have been in the states continuing her Masters but no, her grandmother had fallen ill, and here she was – in Tehran – when the greatest fight for women’s rights of our century exploded.

Emma Swan had been covering the developing story in Iran as a correspondent for Al Jazeera. She had even dyed her hair dark for this assignment, tanning lightly to fit in with the crowd. She had been shielded by the Italian Embassy in Iran as a Canadian-American citizen. But they couldn’t protect her out on the streets as her team went reporting.*note -- it is marked as "graphic" just as a warning. there is a gunshot but not overly graphic and there is a quick doctors without borders type gunshot medical scene, you can skip those sections if you need or start reading and see if those two paragraphs need to be skipped or not
