Wrap and Tie Shorts and Pants: Please. Don’t.
Simplicity Patterns, for reasons that elude me--lunacy? comedy?--has reissued one of the worst ideas in fashion ever: wrap pants. These were invented in the 1970s when a lot of experiments were tried, and some of them failed. I suspect this one was created was for people who were frightened of putting in zippers or thought they took too much time . Do not be afraid. Learn to put in zippers. I have mastered the invisible zipper and find it most satisfying. With this design, you must spend just as much time, if not more, doing mind-numbing hemming by machine as you would putting in a zipper. And the results are a pair of pants that threaten to blow open in the wind, get caught on a chair, and generally render you clumsy and bare. It’s Simplicity 5124.
So you can find it here on line, but really, Don’t. Please.
Ok, if you need a costume for a party, that is allowed. I actually have 2 versions of this in original patterns and will be making them only to illustrate a talk I call, “The Descent of Design.”
