So I was really excited to see what tumblr was saying about good omens with the series finale and all. And I expected some people to be upset of course, but I’m kind of shocked about why they’re upset. Like I figured it was gonna be about it only being an hour and a half episode instead of a full season. Or like it being rushed. But I was not expecting to see people so angry about the ending itself. Like don’t get me wrong I’ve been plenty pissed about show endings before. But people being all oh my favorite characters are now gone and never existed and everything sucks is soo confusing to me.
Like maybe I’m missing something and I’m sure if anyone even sees this they’ll be upset with my take on this. And I’m not saying they can’t feel that way cuz people are gonna feel how they’re gonna feel and there’s nothing wrong with that. Everyone sees art a different way no matter the medium.
I personally really enjoyed the ending. And this is my opinion, I think it made sense how it ended. And it’s not a failure on their end for not getting their happily ever after. The whole problem with the former universe was that no matter how many times they stopped it, it was always gonna end. And if they had chosen to bring that universe back they were just gonna keep ending up where they were. It was an inescapable cycle. And Crowley knew that which is why he chose to give life a chance. To let a universe actually grow and change without someone constantly stacking the deck. Aziraphale even says it several times about how even if they had gone to Alpha Centauri, the universe would still eventually end. Would I have loved for them to find a way where they could’ve continued as they had, without all the world ending stuff, 100%. But this made sense. And I like the fact that some version of them still got a chance. And that’s all Crowley and Aziraphale wanted.
And I know some people think that the ending is depressing. Which as I said before is completely fair because art is subjective and people are gonna take different things away from it. But what I took away from it is Hope. Life will find away and they may not have been Aziraphale and Crowley but Asa Fell and Anthony Crowley still found each other. And no I don’t think it’s like the job’s children thing as some people were saying. Because they aren’t a replacement for them. They’re something new that was able to grow because of Crowley and Aziraphale’s choice. They got the opportunity that Crowley and Aziraphale were never able to. They’re their legacy not their replacements. That’s hope. That the decisions you make may not benefit you in the long run, but someone down the road may reap those benefits because of you. And gosh if that isn’t the most uplifting thing in such a shitty world right now. That you may never get to see the world you wanted but by doing the right thing maybe one day others will. That your suffering isn’t for naught.
Now before someone gets all up in arms and takes it the wrong way, I’m not saying that we should have to suffer cuz we shouldn’t. But I’m also saying that the world is shit, of course it is. But saying how shitty the world is and that if only it was better isn’t gonna fix anything. And sometimes you have to accept life is the way it is and just keep doing your best to fix what you can and not kill yourself trying to fix what you can’t.
Anyways I really enjoyed the ending. And no you don’t always need a kiss at the end of a story. Was I hoping for one at the end, totally. Do I think it needed one, no. It was very them. And Aziraphales little finger kiss was really cute.
Okay I’m done with my rant now. And I know no one will probably see this but if they do, Thank you all the amazing talented people who worked on the finale for giving us an amazing end to the story and also everyone who worked on the series as a whole and especially David Tennant and Michael Sheen for playing Crowley and Aziraphale. You both gave us such amazing characters and a wonderful story. Thank you to everyone who made this possible your hard work is appreciated.
