Hey I know it’s 1:07 AM and I never make personal text posts anymore but I am going to buy some cilantro seeds and grow my own cilantro this year.
I just reblogged something about encouraging artists, and I wanted to write a little blurb about it, because it's incredibly important to me.
Even if it's not the most amazing piece of artwork you've ever seen, even if they're just starting out, you should always encourage people to try things. I have a binder of 'friend art'. It's where I store every piece of art anyone's given me over the years. I've got entire sections dedicated to friends who are really passionate and give me lots of art, and I've got smaller sections dedicated to scribbles people said I could have.
I don't think I'm better than them. I don't keep them to remind myself how I'm pretty good at art. I keep them because this is their literal translation of the world and they were kind enough to let me keep a piece of that.
My art has stagnated several times, mostly when I'm depressed, because until college, I never had anyone who said 'Wow, your art is amazing' with no strings attached. There's always a 'too bad', or a 'but'. So, when someone draws something, then you can bet your ass I'm going to love it, no strings attached.
And when I get depressed or have art-block, I usually look to that binder full of friend art.
