Picked up Dream Daddy (it’s a dating simulator full of SO MANY DAD PUNS, omg you don’t know how fun this is!!) today. Some very real moments in the game, and this one between your character (a single dad) and his daughter made me pause.
Word to all parents, who inevitably have this talk with their kids MORE THAN ONCE: A) Yes, high school sucks, but this kind of drama exists in college and adult life as well. B) No, real friends don’t do that, but it’s wrong to invalidate all the time, trust, and emotional attachment that has been invested in this relationship. C) Friendships end. People DO change, just never the way you expect and/or urge them to. It’s better to learn this lesson in middle school or high school, from a parent whose knowledge one trusts (even if one is a blatantly disrespectful troubled teen), than to learn it the hard way in one’s 20′s. It’s the hardest talk to have with anyone, including yourself in the mirror, much less an upset and confused kid-- but they’ll be better prepared for the inevitable.
