Ok!! Sooo Robert is 1 out of 7 love interests in the game. With each character they're all loosely based off of some form of trope and then expanded to be actually good and interesting characters (Like Mat. Who is based off of the idea of hipsters and then expanded on with things like him dealing with anxiety.) Robert is a bit harder to pin down. You see him and you start off thinking he's a "bad boy" but If it were to be up to me to describe what he is he's either "That 1 drunk uncle that keeps talking about conspiracy theories the entire time he's at your place for thanksgiving but like in a way where you actually like him" or "They started out with making a bad boy but then realized that a bad boy isn't fit to be a parent in a lot of cases and decided to take it seriously". Either way you would think that this is sort of out of the wheelhouse for the stupid dilf dating sim game but they actually made this man so good that I am currently in the process of writing an entire essay about the narrative parallels of this man's character.
There's a lot of stuff to dissect with him! like how he breaks your expectations about what a story line with a romancible character in a dating sim can look like or the Metaphors™. I can go on for a very long time about that but I'm deciding to just go with his relationships with other characters, mainly Joseph and damien. Also the cryptid hunting.
Something I need to say here in order to understand how crazy the next couple paragraphs are is that this game is said in just the real normal world. I mean there is some weird stuff going on like how it's in an alternate universe where gay marriage was legalized in presumably America and the existence of dad fiend social media (AND YES I COULD GO INTO AN ENTIRE VAN ABOUT THE SOCIO-POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THAT but that is HEAVY HEAVY spitballing on my part so I'm just gonna ignore the existence of dadbook and dadstagram. Of course if you want me to go into more detail you can ask but like for now we're just gonna leave that to the side) but other than ALLLLL THAT SHIT it's just the normal real world with (supposedly) nothing going on at all…
The next character is called Damian Bloodmarch and is based off of "hot vampires". You might be saying to yourself rn "WHAT THE FUCK HOW????????" So I have the pleasure to say that he isn't a vampire! He is a man (trans man yay:D) who is SO OBSESSED WITH THE VICTORIAN ERA SO MUCH THAT HE IS DECIDED TO MAKE HIS ENTIRE HOUSE AND HIMSELF LOOK LIKE IT CAME STRAIGHT FROM THE VICTORIAN ERA!!! Everybody for the most part treats him like he is an absolutely normal person and that this isn't absolutely insane and I love that for everybody involved. He also has a complex about not being a vampire and just being some normal guy in IT. I have no idea how they came up with this but I'm eternally thankful.
Now I need to say that every character here lives in the same exact cul-de-sac. With this information you might realize that "hay! Didn't you say that Robert is a cryptid hunter?" And yes I did say that! And something I haven't said is that Robert can go fucking insane if paranoid.🙂 So in the comics (long story short. You can look up the comic dub if you want, there's only one of this comic so I think you can find it quickly) he Basically goes hunting for him only for their mutual friend (Marry. I'll talk more about her in a bit;]) to tell him how stupid he's being. He realizes what's going on and they become friends. Automatically a lot of interesting stuff is presented with this but then we get the cover art…
This is actually 1 of 2 bits of cover art, The other 1 has damien putting his hand under Robert's shirt and I think that tells you enough. Sadly that cover art can be absolutely impossible to find by googling it but you can certainly try. I've tried to find it and have succeeded before but I erased that screenshot so I wasn't able to find it this timeTT
You would think there would be a lot of fan stuff of these 2 and yeah there is a bit but the fandom died so there isn't as much as you would think:\\\\
Moving on to Joseph Christiansen!! I would describe Joseph as "I'm not gay! I mean… unless you count the 1 time at bible camp-". He is the reason that I have to add content warnings for affairs and christianity stuff. His wife is Mary and they are not happy with this situation but sadly because of Joseph acting perfect all the time everybody thinks Mary is the problem. (I mean she has problems but not on the same level as Joseph) He has 4 kids and all of them have some level of "this child is not okay and might be in contact with the demons" about them. The eldest doesn't talk and just scowls the entire time, The twins are obsessed with doing the creepy twin thing™, And we literally don't see their baby ever. They also decided to name all of their kids with names that start with the letter C and are christian which ends up with some trash baby names as we go down the list lol Literally no matter what you do in his route he's gonna dump you for some reason or another and break your heart at your child's college acceptance party. I love him, my little fucking freak of a man! I WANT SOMEONE TO KILL HIM:D
Now long before the plot of the game happens (Once again long story short and like so many spoilers but I'm guessing that if you made it so far you just don't care about that lmao) he tricked Robert into having a relationship with him without him knowing about Joseph still being married. This goes about how you would think but at the end Robert and Marry become friends over Joseph being horrible! Now in the game he does the same to the main character and Robert and Marry just have to sit there in horror over the whole thing, completely unable to stop the cycle from repeating itself all over again
After the game came out a lot of people started looking into the code of the game and they found a secret horror cult ending thing. They were able to make a working version of what they were able to find in the files and it basically detailed a story line where Joseph was actually evil and killing a bunch of people to feed his evil god ✨Totally Not Knock Off Cthulhu✨ ONCE AGAIN LONG STORY SHORT he tries to kidnap the main character but he and Marry are able to kill Joseph and then pretend that it was all like a fraud situation in front of the police so they can rest. also there's a new police dad here and it's a looted that there might be a story with him. The fandom looked at this interesting but completely non-cononical storyline that wasn't even in the game at the time and decided that this was an act of "biphobia". This caused a huge bit of harassment and doxing and eventually everybody left the fandom for their own reasons so the fandom died not even a year into it existing.TTTT There was a patch that did add this to the game and everything as a fun little side bit of content but by then everybody was gone. So you can probably understand WHY I GO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANE FOR THIS SHIT.
