Simple Tutorial On How To Set Up Your Audio And MIDI Devices In Reaper
In this article we’re going to talk about how to set up your Audio and MIDI devices in Reaper. So you have to get to the devices, a preferences panel and there’s a couple ways to do that. You could go to options and then preferences or control P and you can also skip right over to your audio device settings by clicking in the upper right hand corner with this information.
i have two questions, actually: 1) Any tips on using reaper? I just downloaded it and I'd like to record my songs on it. 2) whenever i try to record, it says "track not armed" or something like that and i was wondering, did that happen to you too? If so, could you please tell me how to get rid of that? Thanks
Sure, I’ll give a basic tut under the cut. :)
First, make sure your mic is all set up and working before you open the program.
Once the program is open go to File > New Project
Then, go to Track > Insert new track. That will give you a new track to record on that looks like this.
To arm that track for recording press the little round red button in the top left corner of the track so it lights up. Once it’s lit up you can press record.
Other useful tips!
-Press stop to stop recording and click Save All on the window that pops up.
-To cut out parts of the recording click at the beginning of where you want to cut and press S, then click at the end of where you want to cut and press S again. The click the section in the middle and delete it. Sections of recording are selected will be dark grey.
-You can drag sections of recording and they will snap together. (though you can also overlap them to have them fade into eachother. And you can get rid of the snapping effect by holding Shift as you drag them.)
-To fade in and out drag the top corner of a track inward at either end, a red arc will appear if you’ve done it right.
-Save frequently using File > Save Project.
-To save as a WAV go to File > Render.
There are lots of tutorials out there so if you’re curious about something else look it up. :) hope this helps.
