reflecting a little more on reborn + opinions
it’s flawed! it’s rushed in places, although in general I felt they leapt from story to story pretty seamlessly. the more I think about it the less I like miko’s story cause ??? what. that was super distracting. however I’m still really charmed by quentin, surprisingly into the high school kids, and keymashing incoherently about molly. I’m invested and excited!
but I feel like half the fandom wants to dislike the show, and I’m not saying they shouldn’t, they have their reasons, but for me personally I don’t really see the point of that. I wanted to like it, and I did. I like liking things. I really like being excited about things. I also had a fucking shitty day today so maybe I’m latching onto reborn for that reason and over-happying myself about it, but like, that doesn’t really matter, it just makes it more important for me to be happy about it, so you know
thinking back on the original heroes it took me until episode ~4 to really start caring about any major character, I was mostly drawn in by the atmosphere, mystery and variety of characters before that. they were well presented but a lot of them lacked initial depth. this is unsurprising in an ensemble show and I don’t think it’s unsurprising in reborn, but I don’t think that’s a fault, either. comes with the territory
and reborn is a different GENRE from heroes so of course it’s gonna be a different mood and pace
idk I trust the show? I trust that they have a direction and a plan and until I’m proven otherwise I’ll critisize where it’s due but I’m not gonna assume anything cause there’s no point in assuming anything. things will most likely be revealed or adressed. if at the end of the show we have plot holes I’ll frustrate about those then, and stupid decisions will be dealth with as they come, but doing it ahead of time ... WHY BE NEGATIVE
I know a lot of people distrust the original show which is fair and in which case be however wary yo uwant to be about reborn but while there’s a lot of stuff I dislike about the original show (A LOT ACTUALLY) and I don’t doubt there’s stuff I’ll dislike about reborn too, I mean, it’s five years later. like, give it the benefit of the doubt. most likely they’ve learned something about what did and didn’t work in the original run. I mean v3 didn’t work at all and they did v4 like ten times stronger so evne back THEN they learned from their mistakes
so why wouldn’t they with reborn
IDK I’M TIRED AND I’M TALKING TO MYSELF but it makes me sad that there’s so much negativity right now in the fandom, especially cause I feel like there’s gonna be one hell of a rift between reborn fans and anti reborn people if this keeps up, despite mutual enjoyment of the original
you’re entitled to negative opinions and I won’t hold anything against you for them, a lot of concerns raised in posts made today are pretty legit, but again I feel like some people are expecting to dislike it and then of course they will??
but I’m speaking as an optimist so maybe that’s why I don’t get it
I’d rather expect the best over the worst
anyway I’m going to bed
