Anyways here's a design update for Burst AU. Finally figured out what to do with Ingo's wings and coat! Top drawing is a concept sketch for general appearance, bottom sketch is basic reference for the wings/coat (I cropped the coat so the wings were more visible but it will likely still be full length).
Verrry happy with the final result, gotta say my favourite part is that the wings look like Ingo's long coat when folded. Also the coat itself is mostly just draped; the seams are open so it just slots over top of the wings (also partially held in place by straps). All that's left is to figure out the hat ^^

I have an incredibly niche skill which is Pokemon ReBurst design. (It’s actually a spinoff official Pokemon manga if you can believe it)
8ish years ago I hosted an online character tournament on DevArt (followers may recognize Adamas and Perlie at the top there) and it was honestly where my spark ignited for this particular corner of the Pokemon world. ReBurst is neither pokemorph nor pokegijinka but a sort of weird inbetween. Warriors can fuse with a pokemon’s Burst Heart and gain abilities and power of said pokemon.
Over the past 8 years I’ve been working on worldbuilding my own story for this particular branch of pokemon and have designed some 150+ reBurst characters and counting. I’m honoured to have had the chance to be commissioned some characters/pokemon and wanted to share some of them here.
Eventually I’d love to design a reBurst for all current pokemon. I think it would be super neat.
One of the things I've been really salty about in the new game is the Z-Crystals and Z-Moves. I found it entirely anticlimactic to say the least compared to things in the past such as the Mega Evolutions, which added heightened stats, new abilities, and possibly different typing to certain pokemon that were lucky enough to get it before it was apparently scrapped by this Generation. Z-Moves just felt like a new slot where you could put a new move, a move you could use once in an entire battle (and only one pokemon could use it) and it most likely only took out half your opponents HP or was completely useless. Not to mention the unskippable cut scene you have to go through /every time/ that takes up more time than a mega evolution's. Overall it seemed lazy.
Now I remember back when Sun and Moon were announced and new info was coming out that the possible new feature because of these diamond crystals shown that the feature would be Burst. Burst is a pretty unknown thing that only has information in one manga series called Pokemon ReBURST, which is hard to find by itself (especially in its entirety). The anime itself touched recently upon it with Ash Greninja, although not really the same, but people took this as more evidence that Sun and Moon would contain Burst. Burst is a fusion between the trainer and a pokemon, which is in a crystal rather than a pokeball, as the manga's protagonist was able to fuse with Zekrom. So it places the trainer out on the battlefield essentially, fused with a pokemon to become incredibly powerful. These Bursts have limits, as it does drain a lot of energy from both the pokemon and trainer, as well as training that's needed to be able to do a Burst so that you don't fry your body. Essentially this would allow a dynamic in the game to be able to train throughout the game for this, ultimately allowing you to fuse with the legendary of your game (Lunala if you chose Moon, Solgaleo if you chose Sun) to face off with the fusion that already exists in the game (spoilers) Lusamine and Nihilego. This would also give Lusamine power to actually do something as this fusion, as well as give more reason and purpose to it. You yourself will be able to take her on with the help of your legendary to match up with Lusamine.
So I drew out the possible designs of the Burst. Lunaala with the female protagonist (as her name is Moon(?)) and Solgaleo with the male (who's name is Sun).
Honestly I just want to fuse with the pokemon let me do a fusion dance with Lunaala.
I'm about to head into culminatings at school so I'm not going to have very much time to draw until mid/late June. I figured I'd drop off some of the different concept sketches I've been doing in the meantime. Here are 9 of the burst designs made so far for Ingo, Emmet, and Volo.
These designs are mostly set to different timelines/parts of the story; Chandelure, Haxorus, Durant, and Galvantula are all bursts that the twins have when they're in Unova, with Chandelure and Galvantula being their "starter" burst hearts. When Ingo gets eebied he loses his burst hearts (which Emmet holds onto while he's away) and ends up finding a Gliscor burst heart hiding in the dirt of the highlands.
Now, depending on the good or bad ending of the story, Emmet either makes friends with Celebi and gets permission to use its burst, or Emmet goes hunting for burst hearts worldwide until he finds Nihilego and keeps it to make wormholes.
As for Volo, he got a little present from a "friend" and that's how he got his burst hearts. Though, much like the twins, the fact that he has them is a secret that most people don't know.
Anyways it was really fun to design these!! I think my faves from this batch are Durant, Nihilego, and Chandelure. What are yours? Also, semi related, but I tried running some battles in Showdown just for fun and to say the least I found some *interesting* results. Definitely going to make for some funny battles later in the story.

"Alright, let's do this,” Kiryu challenged. “You've already seen Mienshao, are you gonna give me the same courtesy?" Without another word, Takumi placed his Burst Heart to his head and filled the area with bright light. Kiryu was surprised to see the outline of Takumi shrink slightly. Once light faded, the Cinccino Burst's scarf was now attached to his head. The younger Burst Warrior, fused with her Fighting type, smirked despite herself.
"Don't you think you're pushing the odds a bit, tough guy?"
"Truly, it is a humbling week for the typing system."
"Whatever you say. Let's settle this," the fight was on once more.
Kiryu launched herself at her target, testing her usual Liepard strategy with this new Pokémon. The sudden burst of speed seemed to catch the Normal type off guard, and Kiryu easily clapped her hands over Takumi's enlarged ears with Fake Out. The sharp SNAP and accompanying pain caused Takumi's pupils to dilate and mouth to hang open in shock, and Kiryu used the opportunity to smack her opponent with Double Slap. The first two hits landed directly across Takumi's face, but he quickly regained his composure and began backing away from the powerful Fighting type.
"Running away already?" Kiryu shouted across the park to her opponent. "You think you can just forfeit because you got a bad- AAAAUGH!" she screamed as an ear-splitting noise ripped from Takumi's mouth and flew across the length of the park. The sonic ripples were so powerful that they picked up fallen leaves and trash and nearly lifted the Mienshao Burst off her feet. Even on the sidelines, Suki fell over, clutching her ears in pain while her Ninetales put its head in its paws and whimpered. Vision blurred by tears of pain, Kiryu tried to whip at Takumi with her arms, but the Hyper voice was pushing her attacks back like a gust of wind.
