Persona meets Final Fantasy in this classic media built entirely around nonbinary themes, which features multiple major Black characters and other characters of color, including many strong POC characters in positions of authority! There's even some ace rep here as well! Other themes explored in this media include love, war, capitalism, ageism and sexism, and authoritarianism. In addition to battling, you can enjoy some gambling minigames or just go fishing! And there might even be a bit of spice if you play your cards right… Cozy, diverse, and with near-infinite replayability - why haven't you already tried this???

Do you have mommy issues? If so, you should really check out [Media]!

It’s a high-fantasy story with young adventurers, prophesied princes, and honor-bound knights— but the protagonist, rather than being any of these tired cliches, is an older woman who is complex, morally grey, and a bit of a gamer tbh. This story combines flashbacks, personal journal excerpts, and present-day scenes following her move to the big city to weave a compelling (feminist!!!) tale about identity, family, and defying expectations.

The fantasy-dystopian steampunk/cyberpunk dark-academia/apocalyptic (and overall very aesthetic) setting effortlessly combines its own original and complex lore with references to 13th-century Latin poetry, 17th-century metafictional narratives, and 20th-century gothic horror. Locales are beautifully described too (you often feel as if you’re on a long nature walk when experiencing this story), although I will admit the language gets a bit too flowery towards the end.

But if you don’t care much about worldbuilding or writing styles, never fear, as this story’s diverse ensemble cast is filled with compelling characters you’re sure to love (and/or hate)-- many of whom are disabled and/or queer! We’ve got robots, a literal cottagecore witch, gay cryptid hunters, weird little girls, several enby icons, at least one bird, secret wizards, and a quirky med student who’s just trying his best. Some of them even survive to the end! Plus, there may be romance. Not to spoil, but if you’re a fan of doomed relationships, want a subversive take on the classic Orpheus-and-Eurydice myth, or want to see a protagonist steal a couple hearts throughout her journey… you may enjoy this story even more ;)

Okay, let's try to guess all my opponents that I haven't already guessed (and aren't also me)! I submitted a preposterous number of recs again, so this may take a while…

#197: I think I'm going to second the Clue guess.

#201: Okay, but what if this time it actually IS the Broken Earth Trilogy?! (Though I'm not sure how to sell that as "whimsical romantasy", but maybe there's a way?)

#206: I agree that this is NOT Super Mario, since it clearly wants us to think that, but is worded such that it could be any number of other things. I considered guessing E.T. myself, but I don't think that can be spun as a platformer? Never played it, so I'm not sure. Instead, I'll second Castlevania III since the guesser seems to have way more knowledge of old-school gaming than I do.

#223: I'm going to guess Wildermyth. Many campaigns do span generations; anyone can die without "sacrificing their narrative" because they persist as legacy characters (under the right conditions), and also death is part of their narrative; things are randomly generated to some extent so the course of events is "wildly unpredictable" at first; and if you don't lock the relationship, legacy characters can fall in love with someone different every time you recruit them, so "polyamory". Not sure about "open sexuality" (is that somehow referencing the way you can toggle which gender characters are attracted to?), but I won't worry about it because it fits pretty well overall!

#231: Identity and equality… a "lightbulb moment"… "fourteen-year-old me thought about that for AGES"… I want to say this is somehow a math thing. Like, a math textbook, a problem where you solve for X? I'm going to guess this is an algebra textbook.

#233: No idea, so after glancing at the Wikipedia page I'll second the guess for Limbus Company which I know nothing about.

#244: I feel like it's a trap but… some sort of Harry Potter spinoff? If not, I apologize for comparing whatever this is to Harry Potter XD
