I should be more obnoxious. A lot of us should be more obnoxious. How many times I've been baffled because someone randomly asked for money for no urgent matter on some subreddit and a completely random rich person said "oh sure i love this thing, i'll buy it for you with all the DLCs". How many times I've seen someone unexpectedly write what was supposed to be a plain description like they think they're a misunderstood poet and they're really aiming for that A+ in English class, to be complimented and encouraged to please become a writer oh my God I would totally buy all your books based on that one time you were the only one who thought it was appropriate to take creative liberties.
These people are not in the wrong. They're in fact doing it right. I'm constantly trying to make myself small, avoiding the spotlight, because something tells me that's the polite, respectful thing to do, and then I'm confused other people get what they want. You have to put yourself forward. You have to risk it. And if I'm frustrated whenever I notice this it's partly jealousy, but it's also knowing that I'm making myself endure unwritten rules, I'm constantly worrying about somehow doing the right thing so others will perceive me just enough that they acknowledge I exist but don't think I'm a burden, all of that just to be WRONG about it all.
