Rejection Letters
Today I received a rejection letter. Tomorrow I will probably also receive a rejection letter. And that’s ok. In fact sometimes, depending on the organization, it’s best if you reply and thank them for the opportunity. Say not to worry “you’ll see me again next year”. It’s true that with each rejection you can learn and grow and become a better person and a better performer. However, contrary to popular belief, it does not hurt any less the 50th time you get rejected. It does however, make the eventual acceptance all the more sweet. There isn’t a whole lot that one can say about rejection letters just because you can’t quite do anything about them. Besides become inspired to work harder and practice more.
This particular rejection was particularly cruel because on the same day two ridiculous things happened that I totally could have stopped; and yet they happened anyway.
First I go to class with homework in hand. Homework that I had spend all night ALLL NIGHT working on. It was music theory, and I was particularly satisfied with the results. However as the class drew on and we went over the homework. As we talked through the various solutions it slowly dawned that we were only required to analyze the first movement. Where as I had analyzed both. And that the first and second movements had only been made available to us because the second movement was going to be next weeks homework. So sure maybe I’m a little ahead now. But believe me my sleep deprived body does not appreciate this.
And secondly I will leave you with this: when you live in a house with 5 other girls your not always going to get along. But you can take some solace in knowing that a rejection letter from a casting agency is never going to be as painful as a rejection from a friend.
