I am shocked that there are so few #ReceptioGate posts on Tumblr. What, we no longer do niche academia investigations here anymore? Where have all the medievalists gone?

And in the latest in academic fraud scandals, someone named "Professor Carla Rossi" (who may or may not exist) attempted to pass off research done by the author of this blog, Dr. Peter Kidd, as their own. This was done while also clearly making a lot of other errors, which are detailed in a set of blog posts under the December 2022 archive, starting with this post. There are sections that are completely plagarized, including some of the images. It's pretty clearly fraud. Strangely enough, many of the people at the publisher, RECEPTIO, the Research Centre for European Philological Tradition seem to be stock photos- and possibly completely unconnected to real people. Since being called out on this they have edited most of the staff pages... Additionally, many of the images used on the website for the offices in general are stock photos. So even if there was not potentially plagiarism going on there's something VERY funky happening.

But worry not, Professor Rossi has had a chance to defend herself and the company! Unfortunately, this does not help their case. Part IV, My "Accusations" is particularly enlightening on this front. This saga is ongoing but it seems particularly audacious to steal someone's analysis of various medieval manuscripts, claim you didn't do that and then say "but if I did, then it doesn't matter because blogs mean nothing".
