In the interest of bringing you the most niche possible content, this is a fanfic of @the-peak-tmnt‘s excellent fic Reciprocity. Specifically chapters 12-13ish from Donnie’s perspective, aka Donnie and Mikey trying not to freak out[Challenge Level: Impossible]

(Note: I did get permission to post this, but I didn’t collaborate with Peak, so there are a few details that are just my interpretation of Reciprocity events).

I am essentially two weeks late to commemorating the two year anniversary of @the-peak-tmnt’s absolutely wonderful fic, 'reciprocity'!!!!! 😣😣😣😣

I’ve been working on a Spotify playlist since the morning after I started reading it, and I wanted to make a piece of art for the cover (and to celebrate the anniversary of course)!

I got some more Raph fanart and words of love for the fic under the cut 👇💛✨

I only hopped aboard the 'reciprocity' train in mid-August, and let me just say, I was absolutely floored with how good it was.

In the fic, themes of grief and portrayals of family dysfunction and mental illness are handled with so much care and maturity. The therapy scenes are so impressive as it’s hard for to create a believable therapeutic environment!

I identified with Raph so hard while reading. His characterization feels very genuine and visceral. Honestly, this fic has gotten me obsessed with the guy.

Leo was also written so well! I was never very interested in his character in mm tmnt or tottmnt, but this depiction of him makes me care for him a lot. I love the ways his character is given depth and how effectively it is done with the little time we've had with him.

Raph’s rekindling relationship with Mikey and Donnie is also just… wow. I love how he realizes he needs to take on the big brother role and look after them. And how they feel guilt over the fact that they didn’t see just how deeply Raph was struggling. And his relationship with Splinter, the miscommunication and conflict avoidance, is absolute peak. They feel like a real family!

And can we talk about Casey Jones???? Wow, he's not even a canonical Casey but he has to be in my top three. His character fits so well with Raph's here and their friendship feels genuine and earned, despite it developing at such a fast pace.

I also love how it's an in media res story. The unfolding of what happened to get the characters to the point they are at at the beginning of the fic was so intriguing. Also the psychic link between the brothers?! Ahhhh!!! I am so excited to learn more about it! The parts where Leo is acting through his brothers while they don't know makes me want to explode (in the best possible way)!

And the goddamn book... GOD, what a good plot device.

Im just in love with pretty much every aspect of this fic. It has easily shot its way up into my favorites, and I'm already slowly rereading it because I can't get enough. Truly, it's a lovely piece of writing. If you want to check it out you can find it on ao3!!
