Something Useful I Learned in High School
Record lectures. It is so helpful to just sit in class and record a lesson. You don't necessarily have to take notes along the way, it is helpful for after-the-fact when you have to go back, listen to the lecture and take notes though.
I have found that recording lessons allows for the learner to be more engaged than they would be if they were hunched over a notebook all of class. Even though there are always people who will not take that time and listen in class, this is what I have found works for me.
I recorded lessons every day on my phone, I caught what my teacher was saying, and what the students were asking and responding. When I would solely handwrite notes, I missed a lot of the useful information my peers thought to ask, thus rendering me a tad behind. But I have the recording and I can even find the time to focus more on what I want to ask and how I can add to the conversation.
If you believe this is a path for you, remember to ask your professor before beginning to record. It could be seen as an invasion on privacy and even though I, personally, have never had anyone reject me, it could definitely happen still :)
