Documenting the Process
I’m putting together a notebook of material used in the process of recording my album. I like looking back o the process and learning from my mistakes, so if it’s all in one place I don’t have to search for it. Yes, I could have it all on my computer thingy, but I like having a notebook. My wife, the writer, teaches a class in keeping a “Big Fat Writing Journal” in which she preaches the Gospel of keeping track of your process and documenting your journey (journal). I also preach this to my students in band at my middle school: key all of your music and handouts in a binder and organize the shit out it... well, I don’t say that exactly to the 12 year olds, but they get the idea.
I have documented my previous recordings, but I’m trying to keep things centralized his time around and figured I’d put it all in one notebook. Also the paper started to pile up around my work area and I needed some space.
I went to Staples and got a 1 inch binder an some dividers. Here’s how I organized it: Lyrics, Artwork, Lead Sheets, Press, Business Info, Journal Writing, Misc.
