PreSonus has brought out an EXCELLENT update to Ampire - the modeled guitar amps/cabinets plugin available within Studio One.

But wait, there's MORE... This big Ampire update also has the Pedalboard available as a separate plugin that keyboard & synth players will welcome as new options to tweak.

But wait, there's even MORE... PreSonus has made Ampire and some other Studio One plugins available in VST, AU & AAX formats.. so now these plugins are free to roam outside of Studio One.

Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase users.. actually most any other DAW user can now use the new Ampire & Pedalboard.

This opens up some strategic options for anyone considering a shift to Studio One from their current DAW of Choice.....Hmmmm.

Beyoncé has just released " The Lion King: the Gift" as a companion to the movie soundtrack and Recording Workshop grad Derek Dixie produced over half the tracks in partnership with her.

Derek supplied some drumming and lyrics to a few cuts too. Super-talented in SO many ways... Congrats Derek!

Congrats to Recording Workshop grad Jacob Ulery for creating the 80's video game version of Lauv's "Drugs & The Internet". Super-fun retro sounds!

Lauv recently released a video game entitled "Billy Meets World" and used the tracks Jacob created for it's promo and online game play. Lauv himself has huge year of touring ahead - kicking off in September at a Las Vegas festival with Billie Eilish.

Congrats again Jacob & we'll be listening for what's next...

"A Star is Born" shined brightly at the Grammys, and will shine again soon at the Oscars.

Recording Workshop grad Nick Monson is shining too as a cowriter on four of the songs on the movie soundtrack. His brilliant studio skills extend to producing these tracks, and also playing keyboards & guitars. Monster talent all the way around!

Also showing awesome studio chops on this acclaimed movie is Recording Workshop grad and foley mixer John Guentner. John previously enjoyed some Cinema Award Society glory for his foley mixing work on the Netflix series "Stranger Things".

Cool little music tidbit: The song "Low Rider" from WAR has an "Easter egg" at 2m30s.

WAAAY before we had digital editing, things could get pretty hairy with razor blades & analog tape.

Here's a story from a studio dude who I'm sure was stressing at the time:

"An interesting (hopefully) story about “Low Rider” editing involves a little sliver of tape that was never found. If you listen closely to the single, when the song comes back to “Take a little trip...” for the last time, the initial “T” is missing, and it actually says “Ake a little trip...”. We lost the “T” making the final edits. The section had been edited a couple of different ways, and when we constructed the final edit, it was obvious that a tiny piece of tape, maybe 1/8 inch, was not there. It wasn’t on the ends of any edit pieces. It wasn’t on the editing block. It wasn’t on the Studer deck. We did a flashlight check of the floors, the crevices in the machinery, and the engineers’ clothing to try to find that tiny piece. Nothing. There weren’t safeties yet, and the other T starts on the edit mixes didn’t work because of the backing track. After an additional hour or so, Jerry listened to the bad edit again and said screw it, it works, no one will hear that. And he was right. It was a hit, and is still used in commercials.

Actually, Jerry was not completely right. I hear it every time I hear the song. Anyone who hears the story will hear it every time they hear the song."

Kyle (aka SuperDuperKyle) recently launched his "LIGHTSPEED World Tour" and it's awesome to see Recording Workshop grad Neal Duffy handling the FOH mix.

The tour swung through Ohio yesterday and Neal thoughtfully reached out to the crew here at Recording Workshop. Much appreciated!

Neal's mixing skills have been entrusted by many others on tour over the past few years including Neon Trees, CeeLo Green, and Santigold.
