“Community Fridges Combat Both Hunger and Climate Change”
Like Free Little Pantry’s, community fridges are now starting to appear. If you have left overs or other food you no longer want, a quick donation to the fridge (with a note of a description and date) can make sure to the food ends up at the right home.
The fridges also offer a degree of anonymity for those in need that’s hard to find at more traditional food distribution centers, like food pantries. People don’t have to sign up or prove their eligibility to use them. “The whole point is dignified, anonymous access,” Zauderer said. “We’re not the arbiters of how much to take.”
A concept that spread to meet an urgent need amid the pandemic remains a low-key yet efficient way to feed people and prevent food waste.
