Already a step toward the exit, Hubert stopped and looked back. The rumors of Leon's shifting allegiance had not yet made it to his ears, so he had few guesses as to what he was building up to say. Of course, it was about time that Leon recognized which of the academy's three houses was the superior one, and it did not strike Hubert as surprising or strange that he would wish to be closer to Edelgard (somehow it did not register that Leon meant him as well). But the timidity with which Leon posed his request formed a puzzled furrow at the center of Hubert's brow.
"There are a few more seats, yes," he said, knowing well that that was not the true nature of the question. He studied Leon carefully for a moment, his anxious fidgeting far more perplexing than anything else, and then crossed his arms.
"Are you asking to transfer?" He knew the answer. One hand came thoughtfully to his chin and he was silent for a long time.
"I suppose I can put a word in with our professor," he decided at last. "Your experience in battle, your skill with a bow, your earnest work, and your..." A pause as Hubert realized that he was perhaps bringing up personality traits that were irrelevant to a soldier, but it did not quite stop them from breaking through, "... geniality and confidence. I believe Lady Edelgard would be pleased to have you as an ally."
