I was thinking about the Housle or Red Meal of Traditional Witchcraft while I planned my Agathos Daimon offering for tonight. It isn’t exactly a red meal and it straddles TradCraft and Greek practices, much as I do. I don’t know if other practitioners marry Greek and TradCraft, but it’s such a natural and obvious coupling for me that they can’t really be separated.

Agathos Daimon is a rite and offering to thank and appease the spirits of our homes. There is a complex connection to Zeus and it’s often represented by a snake, another connection to TradCraft that I like to make.

I chose dark fruits and barley, a typical grain offering in Ancient Greece, and a glass of ruby red wine. I made the black beeswax candles and they “bleed” red as they burn. For incense, I used bay leaves. Unlike the previous two nights where partaking in the offerings wasn’t done (probably) you are expected to share wine and a bite or two of whatever food you’re sharing.

Recap of my strange, busy, successful Halloween.

This year I did more on Halloween than any other year, at least in variety and number of spells. It was great and made it feel like a true holiday, like I didn’t miss out. Here’s what happened.

I tried a true love vision mirror spell. It didn’t work, or do anything at all, but I enjoy the adventure of trying new magic that I read. Even failures encourage me.

I made a candle to represent my ancestors and venerate them.

I held a Red Meal for my ancestors. We had soft brown rolls, massive grapes, and cranberry-pomegranate-apple juice with some vodka in it. When I had my share, one bite of each and one sip, I was flooded as if rushed by the alcohol. It couldn’t be that; I have a good tolerance and there was hardly any. I felt them with me, in my heart, burning out the bad and raising me up to the good. I felt wild.

After the day was out, I put the remaining offerings outside and poured out the drink, all as an offering to the ancestors and the local spirits. My dog found the bread, despite my efforts, and ate it right in front of me. Now my whole family back to the dawn of time has had their food stolen by my dog. Thanks, you naughty dog.

I created a powerful enchantment on an item, strong enough that it got hot and “burned” my finger. Very encouraging!

At midnight I created a knot magic charm anchored to my altar, and I look forward to seeing what it will bring me when I wear it!

I left out a bowl of milk for the cat-sith. Something drank the entire thing. My dog definitely could not get to it, no question, so I am assuming it was the cat-sith.

What a day. I need to sleep. Good night, good night. Happy new year.

A bit late, but I forgot to post for Epiphany's Eve. The spectral hordes are done doing their business, which means one last offerings (homemade roscón de reyes among them) for Odin and Holda, though is said Odin doesn't eat... I thought he'd appreciate the effort put on it.

The 12 days of Christmas are done, but we still have January ahead to rest and take it easy or that's what I'm trying.

💀 First day of the novena for the ancestors and the deceased. Yesterday I wanted to do a red meal and visit the cemetery but it was a weird day, so I've done the communion today and tomorrow I'll go to the cemetery.

🕯️Offerings for Holda and Odin, in their death and psychopomp aspect, and the dead. I'm crafting a devotional oil too.

🙏🏻There's been floods and terrible weather in Spain, a lot of people is dead or disappeared. If you can , please add them in your prayers.

I know I made a post recently talking about the Gean/Hag-Berry/Mazzard tree, but I wanted to give a quick shoutout to another variety of tree: The Tibetan Cherry (also called the Birchbark Cherry or Paperbark Cherry.)

Along with being, what I believe to be, one of the most gorgeous trees on Earth, I love Tibetan Cherry for its simple, but meaningful, use in magic. The bark of the tree, which peels off naturally in thin, spiraling sheets, is easy to collect without doing harm to the tree, and can be used as petition paper (for things such as Gwarchs) or a form of red ribbon (for things like love magic.) I even think I’m going to try and use ribbons of the bark as ritual cordage for upcoming Housels we undertake.

A couple pictures of the Housel Loaf we made for the Darkening Day Hood-Feast we undertook on the solstice. Made with our special recipe, seasonally amended for the particular Holy Day, and dusted with the ash from our Hearth.

It was a beautifully fitting Day of the Toad, surrounded as we were by flooding rivers and gray sheets of pouring rain. 🤍
