No filter needed here! This week's feature is just as vibrant in real life. This Glenwood culture pottery sherd from Mills County is covered with a red slip. Slip is liquid "slurry" that includes ground mineral pigments. It was common for Glenwood culture potters to make a red slip using hematite, also known as red ochre or orcher. The slip was applied to pottery vessels before firing and dulled slightly after baking.
