He sniffled a bit more, quickly wiping his eyes in case someone saw. The last thing he wanted to do was have people think the Kanto champion was a drama queen. Well, he was technically since he’s making a big stink about a game that isn’t even his, but still. He heard the branch break and looked to the woods, his Squirtle and Ivysaur looking up too.
“C-Charizard?”
The boy’s memories had flooded his mind. The first time he picked him in Professor Oak’s lab, holding him as a Charmander and bouncing him on his knee like he would a child, the happy giggles coming from the young fire type. He watched him grow into such a strong Pokemon, and when he tried to be happy for him like any good parent would, he just couldn’t help but feel sad and distressed. Without him, Charizard wouldn’t even be in the new Smash game. And still...maybe it was because he hasn’t seen him for so long that he couldn’t hardly recognize him. Red’s face however turned into a scowl.
“What? You got tired of Smash and Mario maker already? Maybe I should put ya back in your Pokeball for a rest! Oh wait, I can’t! Cause you left for both without me! I...I don’t know h-how you’re able t-to show your face around me again!”
Yelling at him made it worse. His heart felt like there was a spear through it.
“I-I thought...we were a team, buddy.”
