Red-faced Malkoha - Phaenicophaeus pyrrhocephalus

This incontrovertibly distinctive bird is Phaenicophaeus pyrrhocephalus (Cuculiformes - Cuculidae), a Vulnerable species endemic to Sri Lanka found in the remaining intact rainforests of the wet zone, and a few scattered riverine forests of the intermediate and dry zones.

Red-faced Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus phyrrhocephalus)

is a species of Malkoha (a family of birds related to cuckoos) found only on Sri Lanka. This bird gets its name from a patch of red that creates a "mask" over the birds face, surprisingly they are not dimorphic and only juveniles are different. They are usually found in dense forests where they hunt large insects like mantids and stick insects they will also take small vertebrates like lizards though.
