More fanart for Nine Sols, this time more decidedly focused on the background rather than character. It turned out really well this time, but this was definetely quite stressful to get through and my arm was hurting a lot by the time I was done, so don't expect anything like this again any time soon -w-

Our Passion

Continuining the Nine Sols fanart after a bit of a break. I was a bit more apprehensive about this piece since its exponentially harder for me to draw two characters together instead of one and they have long, flowing clothes that I really struggled with. Still, I don't think it came out too badly all things considered.

Cursed Dream

Lady Ethereal fanart. The sketching phase of this one was surprisingly painless, but it was the shading that actually took the most time. Of all the bosses in the game, hers is probably the one with the most horror elements surrounding it. I hope people don't mind me posting something quite a bit scarier than my usual stuff. Sorry if I end up jumps caring anybody lol.

Ballad of Warriors

Another drawing for one of the bosses of Nine Sols, I've been continuining with making one for every boss just to tell you how much I enjoyed the game (and also just to give myself something to do >,<). Of all the ones I've drawn so far, Jiequan's design has probably been the one I've struggled with the most, partly because its just more complex than Goumang or Yanlao's but specifically because I struggled with the shape of their head mane. I always end up struggling with characters who don't have round heads since I'm so used to starting off a charcter drawing with the circle for the head. I had to do a couple practice pages just to feel comfortable with his mane shape, but I think I got it well enough. I wanted to try to do a bit of forshortening with the spear they used, having it held from with their back arm and jutting forward, but eh, the effect didn't really go as planned and I probably could've tried to push that forshortening further but didn't since I was already struggling with his pose as is. I know I wanted to have some kind of jumping pose with him charging down at the viewer with their spear as a reference to one of their attacks in the game, but I don't think I can really draw characters from different angles like that really well since every time I tried to in the practice drawings, it looked extremely clunky. Also, the background is admittedly just slapped together. I know I wanted to include the hammer statue that's also featured in his area of the game, but everything else besides that was just making stuff as I went to fill in space. I'm realizing a major problem I'm having with all these is that I often have to use the game itself for reference, but its difficult because the game itself is in 2D and that makes it harder to translate things into a drawing. Big example here, I literally had no idea what the floor would look like here and kinda just had to make something up lol.

The Puppeteer

Another Nine Sols drawing. I just finished the game but I really enjoyed my time with it, enough to hopefully inspire a couple more drawings. I was thinking of drawing each of the major bosses but I'm not sure I'll be able to get through everything before fizzling out. I still distinctly remember my fight with Goumang though, since as much as I love her design and premise for the boss fight, it was honestly kind of disappointing since she didn't have a phase two and I ended up beating her on my first try. Actually, I think she might be the only major boss in the entire game without a second phase! Dang, she really got cheated.  Well, either way, the boss fight was still fun and I love how prominently her Jiangshi soldiers were featured in the fight. It certianly still left a strong impression, one way or the other.
