Okay so the obvious, "I just listened to the song and didn't think too deep into it" decision for "Soldier, Poet, King" would be:
Ronan - Soldier
Adam - Poet
Gansey - King
And it works, it's a fine choice and all. But tbh, I think it works even better as:
Adam - Soldier
Gansey - Poet
Ronan - King
Adam:
- Very knight like has sworn his loyalty and body to cabeswater
- is willing to murder and kill for this
- Takes things into his own hands when he thinks there is no other way to protect and achieve the goals he's set while the others are still trying to decide or talk their way around it
- generally very devoted to his goals
Gansey:
- He is a scholar at heart and can get very poetic with his expressions and thoughts
- He's good with convincing people and manipulating them every now and then to do as he says. Of course sometimes he falls onto his mouth, eg the first meeting with Blue, but it's shown and mentioned a couple times that he can get people to do as he wants just by his phrasing
- He makes some of the decisions, yes but never without consulting his friends. He does his best to weigh in as much as everyone else even despite his automatic leadership role, so I don't see this as a typical ruler type of leadership (this is less of a pro for poet and more of a con for king)
- The whole Words of Power ability
- He loves the planning and thinking, not the action a lot of the time. Yes he enjoys the exploring as well, but most of Gansey's time is spent thinking and reading up and writing down all that he finds. He can get stuck in his own head a bit over some ideas.
Ronan:
- I'm surprised I haven't seen him as King more often. He created a whole kingdom himself haha
- has the weight of knowing everything he created is dependent on his own life on his shoulders
- takes care of his creations because he loves them but also because he knows he is responsible for them and their lives
- knows the pieces he needs to get/dream to solve their troubles, is quick on his feet in making decisions
- Always thinking about the well being of his home, friends and family and trying to improve or help what's his
