Happy Birthday today to Henry Ellis Stewart, better known as Redd Stewart (May 27, 1923 – August 2, 2003).
Mr. Stewart was an American country music songwriter and recording artist who with Pee Wee King (music) co-wrote Tennessee Waltz (Stewart lyrics) in 1948. (Colm has an incredible version on his Broadway and Beyond The Concert Songs.)
The song became a multi-million seller via a 1950 recording by Patti Page.

This performance is from a program called Shindig! -- (from Wiki) “an American musical variety series which aired on ABC from 1964 to 1966. The show was hosted by Jimmy O'Neill.” -- This is the premiere episode; also appearing that night: The Everly Brothers (to whom Colm grew up listening), Donna Loren, and The Righteous Brothers. Pretty good line up!
