as someone who is a living breathing adult who actually knows how SNAP (food stamps) and federal budgets work and not a totally goddamn rabid animal, i kinda hate to kill the celebratory vibes of children starving to death or having to work in a factory here but once again, this is a consequence of liberals only having a memory that extends back to 2016 at the very latest.
this has nothing to do with Trump. Trump’s EOs haven’t touched SNAP because SNAP is ran on a state by state basis using federal funding. there was some worry when he started firing federal workers with Musk, but none of the day-to-day workers for SNAP are federal.
the only SNAP-adjacent workers who were affected were the ones responsible for calculating the annual poverty limit which is obviously significant but does not factor into 2025 applications because that limit was already set (at $32,150) for calendar year 2025 by the Biden Administration (who to their credit made significant expansions to SNAP that are probably at risk now, but have not yet been touched).
the most likely scenario is that this MAGA asshole got a high enough paying job or got caught with more income in his household than he was reporting to SNAP, or a kid of his moved out, so now he’s over the gross monthly income limit, denying his case outright. to go from 400 to nothing would have to be something fairly significant.
but after scrolling through an endless number of the 1,100 comments all making the same exact jokes about starvation and child labor on this reddit post, not a single person mentions this. just pure, unfiltered blood lust. no humans being harmed by this in their minds, only subhuman filth. this is how you wind up with the entire country completely dehumanizing each other altogether.
this man is genuinely fucking stupid and an overall harm to those around him but sorry i still think overall starving to death in the richest country on earth is unacceptable. i wasn’t okay with it before it hurt the people that i don’t like and i’m not okay with it now. i can’t bring myself to feel schadenfreude over poverty and child death. i understand that makes me a traitor to america but what else is new?
