Made it out last night for the last Milky Way opportunity of the year! I was told Palo Duro Canyon just kind of appears suddenly as you drive outside of Amarillo, TX and they weren’t kidding. Make a few turns and suddenly there’s a huge hole in the ground. I found a rocky outcropping that had the right orientation to catch the Milky Way and started clicking away for a couple hundred shots. Laying back and staring at the stars, I also witnessed a meteor streaking across the sky above me. 600 shots taken, about 550 used, and hours of editing and teaching myself how to use Adobe After Effects.
