This one is probably gonna get people whining at me, but w/e. The double standard about shipping in this fandom is RIDICULOUSLY EMBARRASSING.

First off, these characters do not have canon ages anymore, according to SEGA JP. They've been nixed. Age can be implied, but it is entirely up to viewer and player interpretation. That being said, while western fans of the series are OBSESSED with pushing ages and familial roles on the characters, they are also extremely hypocritical about it.

Example: fan favorite ships are SonAmy, ShadAmy, and Sonadow. Why? According to their logic, Sonic is 16 at youngest and 30 at oldest, Shadow is 16 at youngest and 50 at oldest, and Amy is 12. I've even seen RougAmy before, but isn't Rouge in her 20s or 30s? What about Sonilver, where Sonic can be interpreted as 30 while Silver is only 14 or 15?

Of course, these ships aren't anything those people cry over. They only care about when someone ships Tails with one of these characters. Because it's not about actually advocating for children being safe, or out of fear that someone may interpret "problematic ships" as being ok in reality; it's about being superior. It's about the hunt. It's about looking good for their friends on Twitter. This wouldn't even be a discussion if it weren't for puriteens pushing for everyone to cater to their icks specifically, but COVID rotted so many people's brains and fucked up any understanding of fandom etiquette we used to have.
